BucksCo Dems say there are two Mike Fitzpatricks
The Bucks County Democratic Committee again hammered Republican Mike Fitzpatrick on Wednesday, using a new Web ad to highlight his changed positions on labor and energy policy, as the local party continued to lay the groundwork for a likely general election showdown between Fitzpatrick and Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8).
With Murphy keeping a low public profile politically, the party has taken the lead in trying to define Fitzpatrick, who was a one-term congressman before being knocked off by Murphy in 2008. Their latest Web ad, titled “2 Mikes Too Many,” contrasts his previous support for the Employee Free Choice Act and cap-and-trade legislation with his more new-found opposition to the measures. The ad gives voice to the policy shifts that have led some grassroots conservatives to view Fitzpatrick with a wary eye, even as he remains the formidable favorite to win the May 18 primary.
“We are calling the public’s attention to Mike Fitzpatrick’s recent flip-flops so that voters can clearly see that he will say whatever he thinks he needs to in order to get elected,” party executive director Neil Samuels said in an e-mail. “That’s not leadership, that’s transparent hypocrisy.”
Fitzpatrick has been relatively forward about his change of heart regarding the Employee Free Choice Act, telling pa2010.com earlier this year that he no longer believes the economic climate is right for the legislation that would ease the process for workers to unionize.

Gloria Carlineo is the only GOP candidate who has been saying this for weeks:

On May 18, vote for the only conservative candidate who has a chance to beat Murphy in November. Vote for Gloria Carlineo!!!!!!
No FitzMurphy

The video is very accurate but also speaks to just how fearful the Demz are about Murphy’s chances.
My money is on Carlineo as the best candidate to represent our district.

Please come out and vote on May 18th….but then again if you are on PA2010 you already know that!

“My money is on Carlineo . . .”
Really? That would make you one of the very few who actually had enough confidence in her to contribute to her campaign.
Carlineo can’t raise contributions because there is nothing positive about her campaign. She has no substantial achievement in her life or contribution to this community that attracts voters, so her entire campaign has been about blasting opponents. Lots of people are angry, but when it comes to their vote, they are looking for someone competent who can lead.
Contrast that with Fitz, whose supporters back him on the order of 50:1 compared to Carlineo. Fitz is capable of achieving reductions in wasteful government spending. He has a track record to back him up (when not being hacked apart so Dems can spin it). Carlineo only alienates people – starting with the very Republicans that she needs to win in a Republican primary.
That’s why the Dems are going after Fitz – he’s the only viable candidate for the 8th. Pity that Carlineo is playing right into the Dem’s hands, but then again, that also demonstrates her lack of political skills.

The only leadership that Mike Fitzpatrick provides is leadership into changing the Republican Party into a bunch of RINOs and continuing the Republican Party’s downward spiral to irrelevance.
Mike is a career politician who will say anything to get back into office. He has never offered an adequate explanation for:
1) Co-sponsoring Card Check (Employee Free Choice Act). I guess his $100k+ in campaign contributions from unions in 05/06 had something to do with that. The unions are now supporting Murphy. Suddenly, Mike no longer supports Card Check. Hmmmm.
2) Co-sponsoring the Safe Climate Act of 2006. This was the original and much worse version of CAP AND TRADE!!!!!!!!!! Mike trumpeted this on his old website – along with his Sierra Club endorsement. Fast forward to 2010, the Sierra Club endorsement is gone and the environmentalist cash contributions are gone. Now, Mike is against CAP AND TRADE. Hmmmm.
3) Mike was against drilling in ANWR and voted against the American Made Energy and Good Jobs Act of 2006. Again, in 2010, environmental ties are gone and suddenly Mike is about drilling.
4) Mike used to proudly cite all the Pork he brought back to the 8th District on his old website. He was the poster boy for earmarks. In 2010, the winds have changed on earmarks, and now Mike supports earmark reform.
5) The neutral and widely respected National Taxpayers Union gave Mike a “D” letter grade for his last term in Congress.
Just like Obama running as a moderate during campaign season, Fitz is running as a conservative in campaign season. If Fitz wins the primary and somehow manages to beat Murphy, you will see him go back to his old ways – just like Obama did.
And don’t give me the substance argument. Even a casual observer can see that Carlineo has offered much more concrete ideas on the campaign trail than Fitz. Fitz is simply trying to run out the clock on the GOP Primary, and hopes no one notices and that the Party Hacks will be able to vote him through (unfortunately, it’s a strategy that might work).

Another long criticism of Fitz, but nothing affirmative about Carlineo. Bucks voters see right through this nonsense.

There are only two critical objectives that the voters in the PA 8th district need to drill down to a clear focus. 1 – Mr. Murphy HAS TO GO. His lock step support of the Pelosi/Obama agenda is a factual point of legislative record. 2 – There is one candidate and one candidate only that has proven qualifications to replace him. That is also the only candidate who will defeat Murphy in November. Mike Fitzpatrick. The Murphy camp is scared to death of a Fitzpatrick GOP nod on the 18th. Match the 2 year positive record of Mike Fitzpatrick to 4 years of Murphy and it’s like viewing opposite sides of the moon.

I have chased-down the accusations against Mike’s record that were published on the BucksRight website and published in a grid that Gloria disseminated (most recently @ the Washington Crossing Inn event). Neither the webmaster (of the former) or the DC-consultant (of the latter) was able to justify these accusations WHEN THE BILLS WERE CITED WITH SPECIFICITY.
What happens in the legislative process, as those who are promulgating these charges MUST know, is that an ENTIRE bill must be voted aye/nay. Thus, cherry-picking a component of a bill that is then portrayed as reprehensible…becomes the heart of an anti-Mike campaign.
It is necessary for Gloria’s adherents to remember that–per Walt Kelly’s “Pogo” of decades ago–the enemy should NOT be ourselves, for the concern must be focused on all-things-Obama.
This is why Gloria’s claim of having raised six-digits falls-flat; the stats show that 90% thereof is her self-loan, while she actually raised only $10K…compared with hundreds-of-thousands given to Mike. The turnout @ Mike’s events has been equally overwhelming (announcement, St. Patrick’s Day, Healthcare, etc.).
Mike’s adherents have grown to appreciate his judgment over the years, a level of commitment among people who themselves are HIGHLY trustworthy and respected in the community THAT WILL NOT BE DISLODGED BY AN UNKNOWN, NEGATIVE COMMITTEEWOMAN who has no prior accomplishment to which she can point…that would justify her initial electoral effort be manifest as a Congressional campaign.
[P.S.--When she claims the GOP will die unless it promotes people with her demographics, she is engaging in extortion. Such a desperate action makes her future far bleaker than that of Hoffman/Jones, who are upright/honorable.]

For those that applauded Gloria Carlineo for challenging Fitzflop…you were spot on. For those who moaned or have called her names you will reap what you sow. For the life of me I can’t understand how those attending and interested in the TJ Club, KTP and other tea party organization can be all rah rah for Sam Rohrer, Daryl Metcalfe, Russ Diamond, Pat Toomey, etc….and favor Mike Fitzpatrick. We have just under 2 weeks to rally behind someone that has shown she has what it takes to take on Murphy. That is Gloria Carlineo. She is not afraid of Fitz and she won’t be afraid of what Murphy throws at her. We need someone willing to mix it up and fight. Ira and James have shown nothing along those lines.

Oh and Dr. S,
Please explain (cause I know you love to) why Mike keeps crowing about Murphy’s “F” from NTU, makes excuses about his own “D”??

Three cheers for sensible, accurate Dr. Sklaroff. I am waiting to see how long it will take the tea people to realize their cause is good, but their chance to unseat Murphy can only come with someone who is accomplished and smart, has name recognition, an honorable record of public service and. . . friendly!
You decide.

To “Bucks voter”…who wrote the identical post on the TJ-Club site…the “homework” that emerges is intuitive: Mike’s NTU-rating was based on the Earmark-issue–which he has eschewed–and it is now necessary to ID what now is said to characterize him as an incorrigible-RINO who will predictably/inevitably revert.

Dr S.,
Sorry, but you can’t have it both ways. You can’t castigate Murphy for his “F” and eschew your own “D”.
btw…I won’t post this on the TJ club site since you seem to have a problem with that.

I have no problem with anyone posting anything anywhere, but I do have a problem with conscious efforts to blind one’s self to obvious truths.
One cannot equate a posture that has been repeatedly rescinded with one that is ongoing. Thus, I “CAN” “have it both ways”; Murphy can be castigated because he wants to continue earmarking, whereas Fitzpatrick cannot be castigated because he does not want to earmark.
Got it?

The fact is that Murphy is a big spending progressive who brags about being a progressive, he is no Blue Dog. If he stood up once, just once (cap&trade for example) I would maybe vote for him, again…but not this time around. I am so angery, and want to vote so badly, that my palm is sweating just typing this. I am not alone, many friends who were fed up with the Republicans are voting against Murphy. Which this election will be, a vote against Murphy for a lot of us. If he just held a damn townhall on health care and went against Cap&Trade I think he would be ok.

2 Mikes too many?? PLEASE! This world would be a much better place if there were more genuine, caring & honest people like Mike Fitzpatrick. I know like the overwhelming show of people who came out today to vote & support Mike Fitzpatrick time will tell. People know now more than ever that they need to stand up, get out vote for Mike. We need someone like Mike who truly cares about his country & the people who live here. I support Mike Fitzpatrick 100% & come election time I believe he will be back in his seat where he belongs. Go Mike!
