The (almost) last word on endorsements in the 6th
Democrats Doug Pike and Manan Trivedi have spent months warring over endorsements in their 6th District primary. But with three weeks before voters make their pick, will they really make a difference?
Pike thinks so. Even as a handful of Democratic insiders have made headlines by leaving his endorsement list, much of his support has come from organized labor, and he said those unions would be good at mobilizing voters and drumming up support.
Trivedi, meanwhile, said that “we’re proud to get every endorsement we’ve got.”

I am sure Trivedi is proud he went from a long shot to someone with a faaaar outside shot, but the Unions are HUGE, and they actually do work for a candidate. Committee people simple vote, which while important, doesn’t do the same at an army of people at the polls and on the streets.

IAS –
Not sure about where you live, but I’ve been working the polls for a few years and I have never seen much of a union presence. I’ve seen lots and lots of folks recruited by committee people, though. And I’ve seen thousands of sample ballots passed out, with voters eagerly scanning them before casting their votes.
I think when it comes to suburban voters these days, the unions don’t really carry that much weight.

In Berks County, committee members are the ones who work outside the polls.

Unions are great at getting their members to vote for their endorsed candidate, but are usually not visible at the polls or at all really to non-union voters. That being said, there are a lot of union folks in that district. Also, Trivedi’s committeepeople might not be able to sway voters if they’re already convinced by Pike TV commercials, should he decide to air them with his fortune.

i have never seen a union person at the polls just our hardworking committee men and women. That’s not to say union’s don’t have some influence but I think people make up their own minds with help from their committee people and the county endorsements especially in a race like this where there are two democrats running. Most people aren’t even aware there are two Democrats running. So the work of the committee person in this case is huge. The ads will add recognition to the race but not make people decide unless they do their own homework prior to voting. That is why they look to their committee people for direction. So far, the direction has been to Manan Trivedi since he is the person connecting with the voters.

I heard the two canidates speak the other day –Pike was dull and boring, Trivedi was young and energetic. Enough said.
