Sestak to Biden: Smack Specter ‘right square in the chops’

Sestak to Biden: Smack Specter ‘right square in the chops’

Back in 2008, then-vice presidential candidate Joe Biden had a warning about the kind of “Swiftboat” attacks that helped derail John Kerry’s presidential hopes. “Swiftboating is not going to work this time, and the reason it’s not is, number one, I’m going to smack ‘em right square in the chops,” Biden said at the time.

Now, Democrat Joe Sestak wants Biden to apply that same logic to Arlen Specter.

Sestak on Thursday wrote a letter to Biden, calling for his help in getting Specter to stop airing an against him, which cites a 2005 Navy Times article in saying Sestak left the Navy because he created a “poor command climate.” Specter is, of course, a close friend of Biden’s, and it was Biden who helped convince Specter to switch parties. Nonetheless, the letter, which Sestak’s campaign said would be hand-delivered to Biden by veterans, amounted to Sestak’s most direct involvement in the confrontation.

“A political attack on the service of a Veteran is a dishonor to every man and woman who has worn the cloth of this Nation,” Sestak wrote in the letter. “Mr. Vice President, you’re a Pennsylvanian. You know how proud we are of our Veterans. We have the second-highest population of Vets in the country. You know our Commonwealth deserves better than this kind of politics.

“I understand that Arlen Specter is your longtime colleague and close personal friend,” Sestak added, “but I call on you to disavow these lies and demand that they be stopped immediately.”

The letter came a day after a group of veterans called for Specter to halt the ad. Specter’s campaign has defended the ad, which focuses primary on votes Sestak missed in Washington.

    Hater-
    Thanks for the defense. (and you really should come out in the open)

    You mention Barney Frank. He just recently called for looking into the military budget for spending cuts, instead of Social Security and Medicare.

    He had a great point about how it didn’t matter how sophisticated a system might be, if it didn’t have an enemy to use it against.
    I wonder what level reductions of the overall military budget Sestak would call for or support?

    Personally, I think we can cut the budget 30% because there is so much waste and unnecessary projects and obsolete programs. Also, there is too much being handled by outside contractors that should be done directly by the military itself.

    As for Santorum and Toomey, they seem to be working hard for Sestak’s campaign.

    You just can’t GET IT RIGHT! I put it on the PA 2010 blog and you looked it up yourself and you still have not figured it out!

    You must work for SESTAK!

    Lets try this again:

    **Rank = Last rank held**

    Given = First name
    Surname = Last name
    Branch = Branch of service (US Army, US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Coast Guard)
    Retired = self-explanatory

    Ask SESTAK himself, I dare you!

    Get it right- I still don’t get it. Did Admiral Sestak get confirmed and serve as a three star admiral or not? Or is that not what you’re criticizing? I get it if your point is that he retired as a two star admiral, but a service-time requirement should not take away from his achievement of earning his third star? I mean do we agree that Sestak earned his third star or not? If you don’t believe he earned his third star, here’s the vote: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ntquery/D?nomis:2:./temp/~nomis1dLZJr::

    HateSestak- Perhaps I don’t think it my place to tell a candidate how to spend his or her campaign funds. It seems as if he has hired a firm that has had success holding advertisements until an all out media blitz at the end. It worked in Philadelphia with Nutter (nobody knew about him before two weeks before the election, as nobody pays attention to city counsel except city counsel in Philadelphia). As a further parallel from that election, the politician that went up early and responded to other’s claims was Tom Knox, who didn’t end up fairing so well. So instead of insinuating nefarious things about Sestak, here’s the reason for you: He wants to saturate the air just before the voters go into the booth so they know who he is and who Specter is. Its not that hard to grasp that concept.

    FH –

    From what I have found out and explained numerous times, technically and officially the rank that one RETIRES AS is the official rank of the individual from there after!

    Therefore Congressman Joe Sestak to me is a Two Star Rear Admial.

    Congressman Sestak did not correct Chris Mathews when he was on his show and he referred to Sestak as a TWO STAR ADMIRAL.

    Maybe the Daily Times can help on this one!

    Ok so we agree, He WAS confirmed by the Senante as three star admiral, served time at such a rank. He then retired as a two star admiral due to service time requirements. However the statement that he is a former three star admiral is not a factually inaccurate one. He is paid his pension at the rate of a two star admiral, and were he to attend any event, the markings designating his rank would be that of a two star admiral. But he did in fact earn, be confirmed as, and serve as a three star admiral, the congressional record leaves no doubt as to that.

    I am told ny a Veteran of Clifton Heights that they are probably going to lose their post, to me that id a sad thing. However I would like to know the name of one of these Vet’s that ever served under “No Show Joe” Sounds to me they none of them had.These guys are suffering from shell shock.
    I don’t blame any of them as they have the right to believe in what ever they want but they should check out the facts or just shut their mouths, I an from a military family and friends are working and voting for Sen Specter. Some from the DC area
    were the first to check out No Show Joe and they actually produced the Navy record. Bottom line he was thrown out of the Navy for what he was charged. This man is the scum of the earth and should bot even get his retirement pay from the Navy let alone be a Senator, I know at least 10 or 11 people that have changed their party just to vote in May against No Show Joe.

    He was a failure in the Navy, failure as My congressman so just tell me how he could ever try to be a Senator, His ego has run away with this crazy man and we shall see just how bad he is beaten in the Primary, then we will go on to the general and beat yhe shit out of Toomey, another loon

    The only place the little Admiral has is the 14th
    ward of Pdh and that will not do a thing for Sestak, they just don’t like incumbents and known very little about the Admiral the egomaniatic of Delaware county.
    All I know is that I will win my Pct for Sen Specter. big time.

    The Little Admiral is scared to death that he will lose the primary, why else would he put his daughter in his ad other than to get sympathy from the voter’s. Glad she got better but at the sane time other kids died and he didn’t care at all about these kids, did he ?
    Not at all. Bye Joe you failure of a man,
