By THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN PATRICK MURPHY (D-8)
(Washington, DC) – April 28, 2010 Congressman Patrick Murphy’s (D-PA) bipartisan bill to eliminate $98 billion lost to fraud, waste and abuse due to poor oversight on the part of federal agencies passed in the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon.
“I am proud to pass this bill to ensure we cut down on wasteful government spending,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy.
“Taxpayers demand that there is accountability…
Full StoryIn 3rd District primary, Huber buys TV time early and often
ERIE—As Republicans Paul Huber and Mike Kelly jockey for the GOP nomination to take on Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3), Huber has entered the home stretch with large purchases of TV ads that, at least for now, are largely burying Kelly on the airwaves.
Huber has already committed to spending more than $150,000 on broadcast television in the Erie media market through the May 18 primary, with a third of that amount having already been spent…
Full StorySpecial session on transportation is an opportunity for reform
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s recent rejection of the plan to turn Interstate 80 into a toll road has left our state’s transportation budget in crisis. Now, tough decisions lie ahead as we look for other ways to fund mass transit and much-needed repairs to Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges.
We cannot keep plugging budget holes with stopgap measures that make no improvements in the long-term strength of our transportation system. This is an opportunity to…

From the moment Republican Tom Marino got into the race for Congress in the 10th District this year, p“I challenge anyone that has information on anything that Mr. Denaples has done illegally to call me and we will go to the FBI together,” Marino said Monday, a href="http://dailyitem.com/0100_news/x993515343/STREET-TALK-Tom-Marino-visits-Sunbury-streets" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://dailyitem.com']);return TrackClick("http%3A%2F%2Fdailyitem.com%2F0100_news%2Fx993515343%2FSTREET-TALK-Tom-Marino-visits-Sunbury-streets','The+Daily+Item+reports')" target="_blank"emThe Daily Item/em reports/a. “He is my friend and he has never done anything wrong, and I won’t throw him under the bus just to get a vote.”/p
pIt appeared to be Marino’s most direct comments on DeNaples since declaring his candidacy in the GOP primary to take on Congressman Chris Carney (D-10)./p
pDeNaples was accused of lying to state gaming regulators about ties to organized crime when he applied for a slots license, charges that were eventually dropped in a legal saga that ended with DeNaples ceding control of the Mount Airy Casino to his daughter. Marino resigned as U.S. Attorney in 2007, a couple months after emThe Morning Call/em reported that he had offered up a reference DeNaples’ casino gaming application while Marino’s office was also investigating the businessman. Mulling Sestak’s cry of ‘Swiftboating’
For the better part of a week now, I’ve been unable to escape the nagging feeling that Joe Sestak’s reaction to Arlen Specter’s attack ad against him is, well, a huge overreaction.
Let me pause here to acknowledge that many will disagree, and that I fully expect to catch flak for this, perhaps deservedly so. Let me also add the caveat that I am basing this “overreaction” conclusion on the merits, not as any kind…
Full StoryLuksik: Toomey is no pro-lifer
Republican Peg Luksik this week called into question Pat Toomey’s pro-life credentials, taking perhaps her most direct swipe yet at the party’s front-running Senate candidate.
Luksik’s campaign seized on a voter guide issued by the anti-abortion group LifePAC of SouthWestern Pennsylvania, which included Toomey on its list of candidates who oppose abortion rights. Though Toomey has for several years now described himself as staunchly pro-life, he had a more libertarian-style, pro-choice image in the late…

Senator Arlen Specter’s campaign on Tuesday unveiled its latest campaign ad, featuring actor Michael J. Fox.
In the 30-second spot, Fox, known more in recent years for his advocacy for medical research after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, lauds Specter for supporting increases in federal funding for research.
“In the fight against disease, you can look back, or move forward,” Fox says in the ad. “Arlen Specter is moving forward.”
The campaign did not provide…
