Murphy outraises Fitzpatrick, has about $1.3 in the bank
Former congressman Mike Fitzpatrick put up some impressive fundraising numbers in the first quarter of this year, but current Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8) raised more.
Murphy raked in about $586,000 from January through March, according to a campaign insider. His quarterly campaign finance report had not yet been published online early Thursday afternoon, but the campaign insider said Murphy has now raised more than $2 million for the cycle, and finished the period with about $1.3 million in cash on hand.
Fitzpatrick’s campaign said last week that he raised about $510,000 during the quarter.
Republicans are eager to recapture the seat that Murphy won against Fitzpatrick in 2006, but with a national fundraising base and close relationships to Democratic leaders, Murphy is expected to be better funded in the race. The campaign insider said that more than 2,000 individual contributions came from inside Pennsylvania.
In a statement to pa2010.com, Murphy said: “All the money in the world isn’t going to make voters forget that Mike Fitzpatrick is a career politician who gave himself a $22,000 pay raise, and I’m humbled by the support of 2,487 contributions from Pennsylvanians who support my work to bring back good paying jobs.”

Neither of these guys is going to be in the House of Representatives. Gloria Carlineo will defeat both of them. Fund raising isn’t the issue now. It is all about being the outsider with a message. The money and exposure will come after Labor Day.

Fitzwhatever his name is won’t even agree to a specific date for a proposed debate being sponsored by the Inteligencer.

lol..43% of that money for Murphy came from out of state!!! How much left over came from outside the district??? $40,000 came from the film/TV industry…how big is that in district 8???
you can get all the outside money you can for this election, but we are the ones who will vote, and we are the ones who voted for a blue dog, and got a nancy pelosi rubber stamp.

So basically $76,000 is all the separates a congressman who has been in office for four years, versus someone who has been running for office for less than nine weeks. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the $510,000 that Fitzpatrick raised speaks volumes to that of a sitting congressman.

Once again, Murphy is putting out deceiving numbers …. BIG time.
Consider the fact that Murphy’s $586,000 came from 13 weeks of fundraising (From Jan. 1 thru March 31) while Fitzpatrick’s $510,000 was raised in only 9 WEEKS … a much smaller period of time!!!
So please Pa2010, stop falling prey to Murphy lies in which he claims “impressive” cash raising numbers when in fact, he is comparing two sets of time periods in which HIS time frame is 35% longer.
Murphy is like one of those puffed up rhodent lizards which blow up their cheeks and gills just to make themselves look bigger in an attempt to scare off adversaries.
It aint gonna work this time, Murphy. The people of the 8th district are on to your Obama worshiping slight of hand

Murphy says …. <>
WHAT JOBS???
In fact you SHOULD be humbled considering that you brought back NO JOBS to the 8th district and in fact sat by twiddling your thumbs while the unemployment rate (in 2006) was 4.7% nationally and NOW stands near 10%.
WHAT JOBS are you talking about Murphy?
Perhaps you’re confusing yourself in thinking about the jobs from the Hollywood leftist crowd that supports your candidacy.

I have not been this fired up to vote in a mid-term in my entire life. The Democrats have no idea what is heading their way this November.

Mike was raising money for a contested primary. Murphy was not. Like Manion, I expect Mike to start out strong but fizzle in the upcoming months like Manion did.

The primary is a nice dry run for the general election but it has nothing to do with Fitzpatrick’s fundraising success.
There is genuine excitement in the air about Mike’s candidacy, and Republicans are very anxious to win back the congressional seat.
I predict Fitzpatrick will raise another 1 to 1 1/2 million in this election cycle.
Col Manion is a nice guy, but in a completely different league politically from Mike Fitzpatrick.

Yes, Mike will start out strong …. and he will get even stronger and stronger over the summer months and into the fall campaign season.
I’ve been door knocking, and never have I seen so many people this excited and supportive of the GOP in general, and Fitzpatrick specifically.
Yesterday, while doorknocking, I had a young woman literally chasing me down the street (after I dropped off Fitz literature at her doorstep) asking me for a yardsign, and wanting to know when and where she can volunteer.
She said she had never been involved in a political campaign, and insisted nothing would hold her back from getting involved this time.
I figure her enthusiasm is that she is partly aghast over Obama, and partly aghast over Murphy’s ineptitude … not to mention the fact that he has morphed into a Pelosi puppet while hiding from the public.
Heck, even his political soulmates at the local newspaper seem to have turned on him as of late.

The clowns asking about jobs are the same ppl that complain about “pork barrel spending.” Well folks, you cant have one with out the other. Pork barrel project jobs are the ones Patrick Murphy can deliver as a Congressman. Private enterprise must do the rest.
Scott, come on home to good ol’ Bucks and vote for Fitz. Every out of state student Dem in Happy Valley will be voting and helping to push the state wide Dems on the the ticket over the top. Just think they may send in an absentee ballot in their home state too! Ohh the scandal! I hope that gets your blood boiling.
The people of Bucks County, on the whole, are a whiney bunch of self righteous fools. They are narrow minded with very little grasp of big issues and virtually no larger world view. The world could be coming to an end and they’d still be sitting around watching their beloved high school sports teams, shooting the bull about the Phillies pitching rotation, and reading the Courier Times. The guy that keeps asking about jobs fits this mold well. He probably polishes his Bucks County Little League trophy every night and sits around wondering why he didn’t make MLB. Pretty soon he’ll be blaming Murphy for that too.

I have not been involved politically, but now, because of the opportunity of meeting Patrick Murphy and meeting Mike Fitzpatrick, I am. And because of my chance meetings, I can see personally the vast contrast between Murphy and Fitzpatrick. Financially, I’m going to contribute whatever I can to help Mike Fitz win both the primary and the general election. I had a father that had cancer and it totally changed his life — and that is exactly what happened with Fitzpatrick. And, in addition he is revisiting some legislation. Remember, none of us is perfect and we make mistakes and do missteps. It also happens to politicians. But it takes a big man and a confident one to admit that, and Mike Fitzpatrick is giving it all he has to get the right message out there. His campaign will not “fizzle” as someone wrote above. Like NachoBear wrote, I believe Mike’s campaign will be just like the Chicago song, “Getting stronger every day”.

Pork barrel project jobs are the ones Patrick Murphy can deliver as a Congressman.
News Flash – Pork barrel project don’t create sustained jobs. They are bribes and kick backs to a candidates supporters. Can you tell me how many high paying jobs the James Mitchner (sp?) provides? Not many but that is the type of pork ol’ Pattie delivers.
You can tell the character of a person by the people he hangs with. Murphy mentors since being in the congress. John Murtha and Charles Rangel two of the dirtiest men ever to serve in congress. Federal Government should not be funding local projects. State and Local governments should be funding local projects.
Yea TB take your pork scrapes like the good little mindless party slave you are.

Pork barrel projects, in the form of grants, can help get a start up off the ground. Now that the Democratic Caucus has put a ban on earmarks for for-profits this is no longer the case.
Indeed, earmarks have been abused over the years. But I’d like to point out that the only earmarks that make the news are those that benefit political supporters. Unfortunately you never hear about the earmarks that create jobs, fund research, and help ordinary Americans in communities across the country. The truth is that the vast majority of earmarks are of the latter mold rather than the former. For decades now, politicians from both parties have gone on the campaign trail railing against earmarks yet when they get back to Washington they fight to get an earmark for the people they represent. Contemptible.
Mindless party slave?!?! Sounds like Mike Fitzpatrick following Tom DeLay et al over the precipice.
Look before You Speak
Apr 20th, 2010
Most of you should really do some research before you speak. Especially when speaking about how great Fitzpatrick is.
One of the above posts says that cancer can change a mans life and thats why your supporting him? That is ridiculous. Although no one should go through what cancer does to people and I do sympathize with him and his family on that aspect, it should not be used in the election to gain sympathy votes. That is bull.
Another thing, when Fitzpatrick was in office he rarely ever was in his office and when he was he was unavailabe to the people. We are the ones that vote, but he doesn’t care because once he gets in people close to him (like Dorothy in Falls) will be happy, but we will soon find that running back to Fitzpatrick will be the WORST decision that you could have possibly made.
Some of those teabagers keep saying that Murphy doesn’t have meetings but that a lie, I have seen Murphy around more than I have ever seen Fitzpatrick, and I even worked for Fitzpatrick. He was awful to his employees and only put a show on for the volunteers so he could get votes.
Get to know the candidates before you speak…I guareentee that a majority of you have never had a conversation with either of them, and don’t pull that I never see them bull b/c there are PLENTY of opportunities to meet them. Especially at the Middletown Grange Fair when they are there at least 2 nights out of the 5.

Some of us want checks and balance back in Washington. Murphy sold himself to this district as a fiscal conservative-he lied! I was stupid and voted for him before he showed his true colors-won’t happen this election. the Murphy Margin is gone. Conservative Democrats (which I used to be) are pissed, and most of my independent friends (which I am now) are voting against Murphy this time around. He should have held townhalls. Too worried about his career to risk making a fool of himself!

I can’t get past the fact that Fitzpatrick was a Bush administration drone. Frankly, that scares the hell out of me…way more so than the fact that Murphy receives campaign contributions from outside the district. Fitzpatrick has now flip flopped on so many issues that he’s going to have a really hard time on election day. I think that’s going to be more difficult to overcome than the stigma Murphy may have of receiving money from out of state supporters.
