MEADVILLE—Five of the candidates in the 3rd District Republican primary can agree on one thing: They’re all fans of the sixth candidate in the race, Martha Moore.

“I want to get you on Leno,” primary opponent Steven Fisher told Moore recently.

“She is entertaining, to say the least,” candidate Paul Huber said.

Moore, a doctor with her own practice in Sandy Lake, has emerged as the fiery, folksy populist in the crowded field to take on Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3), mixing harsh criticism of President Obama with humorous anecdotes that stoke approving laughter from conservative crowds. At a debate here Monday night, Moore, among other things, said she gets “nauseated” when Obama speaks; seemed to blame former Attorney General Janet Reno for the recent housing crisis; said a tax on the bodily functions of cattle was looming; and emphasized that support for a strict reading of the Constitution does not indicate support for slavery.

“I have the advantage of sitting next to her [at debates],” said Mike Kelly, another candidate in the race. “I enjoy her, she has a candor about her. We are friendly competitors, but believe me, I’m glad the alphabet worked out that way, because she’s a breath of fresh air.”

Though she remains an underdog in the race against better-funded candidates in Huber and Kelly, she is, if nothing else, a crowd favorite.

“I think I’m hitting my stride right now,” she told pa2010.com. “The first few [debates] I was nervous, but tonight, I got my personality out.”

See a video compilation below of Moore’s highlights from Monday night’s debate.

She was nuts. Absolutely, she may have been fun and folksy, but in no way seemed qualified. I’m frightened at the fact she is one of 8 candidates for this seat.

Someone needs to check to see where Martha got her medical license to make sure it was not out of a cracker jack box. Seriously.

This is flat out scary. I’ve watched the clips from all six of them. I can’t seriously imagine any of them serving in the US House of Representatives. If I lived in that district, I’d vote for Dahlkemper just because she’s not a) nuts or b) a total amateur.

I could close my eyes, pull any of the 6 levers and choose someone that would represent the district better than Dahlkemper. She might have that ONE year of extra experience but she sure didn’t use any of that time to read up on executive orders.

Dr. Moore is my doctor. I will support her as she is what we need in this country. She is someone that wants to take congress back to the basic pricipals this country was founded on. She has my support all the way.

Dr Moore is my doctor and I think she is a no-nonsense Dr. She is very intelligent, and knows what needs to be done. However, I don’t feel she is the candidate I will vote for. Blaming the current administration for a deficit they inherited is just more rhetoric. I want to see someone who doesn’t stick with party lines, that is what got us where we are.
