Marino gets boost from Scarnati in the 10th
A top elected Republican in state government endorsed former U.S. Attorney Tom Marino for Congress on Tuesday, saying the 10th District hopeful “has put child molesters, rapists, murderers, drug dealers, and organized crime figures behind bars.”
State Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, who also serves as Lieutenant Governor, said Marino was the best candidate in the field to take on incumbent Congressman Chris Carney (D-10). Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk and Luzerne County chiropractor Dave Madeira are also running in the May 18 primary.
“In addition to his background,” Scarnati said in a statement, “I am very impressed with his common-sense conservative message of lower taxes, less government spending, fighting terrorism, creating jobs, and supporting traditional family values. He is the only candidate in this field who can take this message directly to the voters and beat Chris Carney.”

Scarnati and the 10th Congressional District only have one Township in common, Ward Township in Tioga County. Derk has been endorsed by a number of State Senators, State Reps, and County Commissioners that represent more than one Township on the 10th District. How about a posting about all of Derk’s support instead of a posting about an endorsement for Marino that has little affect on the 10th.

Hey NEPA GOPer,
A fair point. But it should be noted that we’ve covered pretty much every single endorsement that Derk has announced. If we missed one here or there, that was an oversight.
Thanks for reading!

Could it be that Scarnati’s brain-trust, Mike Long and Todd Nyquist are on Marino’s payroll? No, that would be a coincidence.

When Louis Denaples was interviewed about his mafia ties by the PGCB for his casino license, Denaples replied he didn’t know what organized crime was.
It would seem by all the indictments that have come in Luzerne County since Tom Marino has left the post of U.S. Attorney for the Middle District, he doesn’t know what organized crime is either !!!

Anyone Scarnati endorses or anything he says should be viewed with a jaded eye. Scarnati is NOT the “…top elected Republican…” by the way…. He was appointed in his current role, and when he originally ran for office and was originally elected he ran as an independent against then-senator Bill Slocum. Slocum had recently been released from federal prison for dumping sludge as the sewer plant operator in Youngsville, PA, and refused the local political hacks’ request to step down and let Scarnati run. Scarnati is, has been, and will always be controlled by the hands who elected him!
