LEFTOVERS: Endorsements for Onorato, Wagner, Saidel and Marino
There were a handful of endorsements up and down the ballot on Monday.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato got the backing of Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick during a news conference inside the Capitol in Harrisburg. “I am pleased to endorse Dan Onorato, someone who has the experience of reviving local communities and a clear record of leadership, particularly on public safety issues,” Hartwick said in a statement. “Dan has revived Allegheny County and I know he will be a strong partner in our goal to revive Dauphin County and all counties across the state.”
Meanwhile, one of Onorato’s primary rivals, Auditor General Jack Wagner, was endorsed by the East Pennsboro Democratic Club, a local party organization in Cumberland County. “What I like the most about Jack is that he has always taken an interest in how local and state government entities can work together to maximize Pennsylvania’s potential,” club president Matt Franchak said in a statement. “He has a proven record of reform, and he has good ideas for future growth from HOPE scholarships for Pennsylvanians to investments in alternative energy. This is what the Commonwealth needs to get back on track. No one has better experience to make these reforms a reality.”
A notch down the ballot, Jonathan Saidel, the Democratic front-runner for Lieutenant Governor, got another labor endorsement, this one coming from a Philadelphia union representing over 7,000 hotel, food service, retail and other workers. The head of the the Philadelphia Joint Board of Workers United said Saidel, a former city controller in Philly, “has made our fight for workers rights and workplace justice his fight for more than twenty years.”
And former U.S. Attorney Tom Marino, a Republican candidate in the 10th Congressional District, was endorsed by Pike County Commissioner Harry Forbes. “Tom’s 18 year record of fighting crime and standing up for those who threaten our families is what sets him apart from his opponents,” Forbes wrote in a letter to supporters. “His experience shows a level of toughness that is needed in Washington D.C. today.”

The national unemployment rate has stabilized and so has the state rate over the last six months. In that same time period, Allegheny County’s rate is rising faster than any other county in the state. It is a catastrophic loss of jobs. With the 20,000 jobs lost last year alone, the sad truth is that the latest data now leaves Allegheny County with fewer jobs today than six years ago when Dan the Tax Man took over. The taxes on small businesses in Allegheny County crushed the job creators.

He levied the Beer Tax to fund the Port Authority which was mismanaging the largest public transit investment in the County’s history — a three hundred million project. It turned into a six hundred million boondoggle. It is no doubt the worst misuse of public money in Western Pennsylvania history. It is also the biggest source of campaign cash for Beer Tax Dan. No wonder the Rendell crowd are renting this guy.

Wow philly machine gets Saidel another one – big deal. I wonder if he is paying them off with “loan” money or if Big Ed just anointed another one. Makes me sick. Can’t wait until Corbett has a field day with this guy.
