LEFTOVERS: DeMint for Toomey, Daily Kos for Trivedi, Boyle for Onorato
There was plenty of news to slip through the cracks during this busy week.
Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is getting in on the celebration of Arlen Specter’s party-switch. The prominent conservative is trying to help Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey raise money by commemorating Specter’s defection to the Democrats. Politico reports that DeMint’s political action committee launched a Web site, www.repealspecter.com, where he’s setting off a “money bomb” to raise $100,000 for Toomey leading up the April 28 anniversary of Specter’s party-switch.
“Your contribution will help Pat Toomey put our country back on the right track and return it to the principles of limited government, constitutional limits, and individual liberty,” the Web site says. “Together we can defeat Arlen Specter and take back our country.”
Meanwhile, Democratic 6th District hopeful Manan Trivedi was added the Orange to Blue program on the liberal Web site Daily Kos. Trivedi’s primary opponent, Doug Pike, has been on the outs with the Daily Kos community ever since his campaign manager was caught anonymously bashing Trivedi on the site’s comments section. “Basically,” a Daily Kos blogger wrote, “Pike is someone who at the age of 59 had decided to use his accumulated wealth and move into the 6th District for Congress, where he’s largely self-financing this campaign.”
And lastly, another state lawmaker has endorsed Democrat Dan Onorato for governor. The latest supporter is state Representative Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia), who backed Onorato Saturday in northeast Philly. “Dan Onorato is the right choice for northeast Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania,” Boyle said in a statement, “His plan for higher education will prepare our workforce for high-demand jobs and help make college more affordable. Dan’s executive experience and his priorities for Pennsylvania will ensure that middle class families can prosper in the 21st century economy.”
