Hoeffel calls for county treasurer to step down

Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel on Thursday called for the resignation of County Treasurer Tom Ellis, after Ellis’ former fiancee lodged allegations of harassment against him.

The Inquirer reports that Hoeffel, a Democratic candidate for governor, said Ellis should quit because of “unacceptable” conduct, and cited previous complaints in saying the Republican has a pattern of harassing women.

“I believe the women,” Hoeffel told the newspaper. “I’m asking Mr. Ellis to resign his office and seek professional help.”

Ellis, the GOP candidate for state treasurer in 2008, told The Inquirer that “there is no cause to resign.” An agreement has been reached with the county’s equal-opportunity officer that prohibits him from contacting his former fiancee.

“This situation is not a criminal situation,” he said. “This is not even a civil-complaint situation. It was a procedural issue that we resolved.”

I agree. Hoeffel is a joke. He really needs to pay attention at his day job before Jim Matthews steals everything. Joe doesn’t seem to understand that his failure to rein in his governing partner is going to have some serious consequences to him. He chose to get in bed with a crook and continues to support him. When Matthews goes down, Hoeffel will be pulled down with him.

Joe Hoeffel AND Tom Ellis both need to go away quietly. Montgomery County residents deserve far better, but unfortunately for us, sigh, there is no one out there that can truly lead. All simply bureaucrats.
