Fitzpatrick says he’s raised half-a-million

Fitzpatrick says he’s raised half-a-million

Republican Mike Fitzpatrick said Friday that he raised about $510,000 in the two months since launching his bid to retake the 8th District House seat he lost in 2006, an impressive fundraising pace that could help cement his status as one of the country’s most formidable congressional challengers.

Campaign finance reports won’t be filed until next week, but Fitzpatrick’s campaign claimed that 96 percent of the money had come from individual donors, while 97 percent of it had come from within Pennsylvania. In January, Fitzpatrick made a late entrance into the race, joining several Republicans seeking the party’s nod to take on Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8). Murphy unseated Fitzpatrick, then a freshman congressman, in 2006. Murphy had yet to release any fundraising numbers Friday, but is expected to be very well funded.

“Since the beginning of this campaign we have been overwhelmed by the response,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement. “People from across the 8th District have stepped forward like never before. Individuals who have never donated money and perhaps have never even been involved in a political campaign are joining with me to help take back our country.”

Having $$$ does not impress me in the least. What I do care about is why did Mike earlier support Card Check, Cap & Trade, earmarks,no driling in ANWR, received a “D” in 2006 from the National Taxpayer Union, etc.? Flip-flopping on issues after getting voted out of office is pretty shameless and not at all inspiring. Who is to say that Mike won’t flip-flop again after the GOP primary or if he gets into office?

Even though I am a lifelong conservative Republican, I can not support guys like this. If it is Fitz v. Murphy, I’ll pass because there is not much difference except for social issues and this election is not about too many social issues for most of us.

Politics as usual fom Bucks – but if this is what the Bucks GOP wants, you can have it … I’ll change my registration to independent.

Please check your facts. There was no “Cap ‘n Trade” in 2006

Anonymous – he supported the initiative for Cap-n-Trade in 2005. There is a huge poster sized picture of him signing it with a huge smile on his face surrounded by his union boss buddies. Better check your facts partner.

    Check your facts.

Mike co-sponsored the Safe Climate Act introduced by Waxaman on June 20, 2006. It was worse that the current Cap and Trade legislation.

I am convinced that most Fitz supporters have no idea how Mike voted during his one term in Congress. Don’t worry – everyone will know by May 18.

    Another ignorant Fitzpatrick zombie.

Boy, I truly hope you wingers have some sort of Teabag candidate running against Fitzpatrick. Would love to see him get knocked off in the primary so Murphy has an easier road in the general. Or, if you do get beat in the primary, why not run somebody as a 3rd Party candidate. That would be a swell idea!

This is low-hanging fruit. The big-money GOPers weren’t going to give to a candidate unless he or she had Harry Fawkes’s blessing. Don’t forget – Tom Manion took in almost half a million in his first quarter in ’08; his fundraising totally fizzled after that. Plus, Mr. Fitzpatrick won’t have PAC support like he did in ’06 when PACs bankrolled about 60 percent of his campaign.

Sorry to say, but as much as he tries to play up his “outsider” credentials, Fitz is just another typical politician.

    Apr 9th, 2010

Fitzpatrick will lose to Murphy. Independents like me won’t vote for him and once you get past the diehard Party Republicans, there is not much excitement about Mike from the “normal” Republicans that I know.

Want change? Let’s go back and get a fiscally liberal Bush-era one term Congressman who supported the Bush war plan. How pathetic.

And by the way, Bruce Bailey, if Mike is the GOP nominee, there will definitely be an independent candidate and I will donate and volunteer for such candidate.

For those that want the facts on Fitzmurphy’s record on carbon emissions look no further than his old website. When asked about this a recent appearances, he responds by saying doesn’t everyone want clean air?

    http://web.archive.org/web/20060830195942/fitzpatrick.house.gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=1586

I am supporting Gloria Carlineo. She is right on the issues and can defeat Murphy.

These numbers look very good, but the real question is whether any of the other challengers have gained any traction. Carlineo claimed to have $100,000 in January. Did she make progress over the past 3 months, or did she spin her wheels wasting time challenging petition signatures? What about Jones or Hoffman?

I agree that money isn’t everything, but the ability to raise it goes a long way toward separating the vanity runners from the competent campaigners.

I can’t believe this gibberish about Mike. Once again, the conservatives are shooting themselves in the foot as they guarantee more Murphy, more Obama and more crazy talk on the path to Euro-Socialism. Stop, think, don’t distort.

Do the conservative wing nuts that oppose Fitzpatrick realize that the district is purple?

  14. NachoBear

Mike Fitzpatrick is the one candidate who has the ENTIRE package needed to win back this district from an Obama-worshiping clone like Patty Murphy.

Fitzpatrick has honesty, charisma, and an amazing intellect.

Fitz has an empathetic heart towards people of all backgrounds and situations, and he truly loves to serve all peoples.

He is well versed on issues, and is beholden to no one but the people who live and work in Bucks County, MontCo, and that small section of NEPhilly.

THAT is why hundreds of people turned out this past weekend to volunteer for his campaign, with many more waiting in the wings.

THAT is why $$ money is pouring in to the Fitzpatrick campaign, EVEN FROM DEMOCRATS (more to come later).

That is why more people are abandoning Murphy every day, and joining the Fitzpatrick for Congress campaign.

In short, Mike Fitzpatrick is a well-loved 8th district born and bred native who happens to also be seeking a seat in Congress.

As nice as the other GOP candidates are (some anyway), it is obvious that Michael Fitzpatrick is the one family-oriented common sense conservative who has the entire package necessary to win not only the primary, but to be a successful in defeating the Pelosi lapdog Patty Murphy in November 2010.

    Apr 12th, 2010

PS — Gloria Calineo, unfortunately, is more obsessed with attacking Republicans than she is in taking on Murphy-Obama and the Democrat destruction machine.

Consider how Gloria attacked and tried to destroy a good and decent man like James Jones, a 20-year Navy veteran who has a heart of gold …. both politically and personally.

That is a sign of political immaturity … and is a warning sign which proves that she (Gloria) is in need of a lot more political seasoning before she steps into the limelight.

  16. Change in 2010

    Apr 13th, 2010

Contrast Fitzpatrick’s performance with Carlineo’s and you’ll know everything you need. Fitz raised about $510,000 in 8 weeks. Carlineo raised exactly $11,584 in four months.
    http://fec.gov/DisclosureSearch/HSRefreshCandList.do?category=disH&stateName=PA&congressId=08&election_yr=2010

This does not count the $98,494 loan she made to her campaign to make it look like she actually has some support.

I guess insulting Republicans while running for the Republican nomination isn’t such a great strategy. Imagine that!

I am a Veteran and a Republican and I support Patrick Murphy! I hope other vets and Republicans re-elect Murphy! Fitzpatrick put the screws to me and he really doesn’t care about veterans!

Murphy was a Gulf War Vet and really cares about the working class and the vets!

Please fellow Republicans, Legionaires, and military vets, support Murphy!!

    Army vet:

Your post makes no sense, and it looks like you’re not who you claim to be.

Having said that, Murphy is not a “Gulf War Vet” – that war occurred in 1991-92, and Murphy was not in the service at that time.

He did serve in OIF, but that is a different war.

Very few if any Republican vets will support Murphy. In fact, many Democrat vets and independent vets will not support Murphy in November.

Being a war veteran candidate for office is a great qualification, but once you get elected it is your voting record in office, and your responsiveness to constituents that matters.

Sorry, but the novelty is gone.

Murphy can’t expect to get a pass on the substantive issues by simply pulling the “veteran card” this time around.

Yes, I stand corrected, Murphy served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. (I used the “Gulf War” term loosely)
And yes I am a Army Veteran
I served in the U.S. Army (Ft Hood) from 84-86 and finished my time in the Reserve Component.
I did support Fitzpatrick in past elections, but clearly Murphy is a better leader, and a better candidate.
