Critz says he’s on the air

Democratic 12th District candidate Mark Critz said Thursday that his campaign had launched its first TV ad in the looming special election showdown with Republican Tim Burns.

The campaign said the 30-second spot begins airing Thursday on cable and broadcast TV in the western Pennsylvania district. Details of the ad buy could not be immediately confirmed. In the ad, embedded below, Critz recalls “pumping water while nine miners were trapped down below in the Quecreek mine” in 2002.

“…that day, while the nation prayed, hundreds of us frantically worked to bring them back up,” Critz says. “And a miracle happened. I’m running for Congress because we need to unite the country in the same way to bring our economy back.”

Burns’ first TV ad was set to hit the airwaves Wednesday.

Wow that was… underwhelming. How many times can you mention Murtha in a 30 second spot?

Not particularly sure what Critz is going for in the ad. I wonder how many voters know congress has just banned non competition earmarks to private firms.

Odd that he wants to run so strongly on Murtha’s reputation. Didn’t Martha Coakley try to say that she would do exactly what Ted Kennedy had been doing for years? The voters didn’t buy it in Mass and I’m not sure they will in the 12th. Critz better come up with his own personality and his own campaign or he’s done.

UPDATE: Sestak remains incognito. Protecting his privacy, the candidiate continues his stealth campaign for the U.S Senate nomination.

How shamesless do you have to be to use a disaster like that for your own political gain…

It’s not shameless to show that Critz was a member of the EMS team that helped that day. It shows volunteerism. And there is a sense of community pride here because the rescue was a success. What’s shameless is that Burns has no community involvement. None. Zippo. But he wants to do us all a favor by running for Congress?? All Burns did was make some good money by selling his company. Sorry, but I’ll take the guy that was there for us when we needed him.

Steve – you’re part of the problem that runs through the 12th. You’d vote for any Democrat, no matter how much of a crook or how inexperienced they are. Why? Because you like welfare. You love the handouts that Murtha gave. Without a free handout you and your family would probably be laying in a ditch dying right now. That’s pretty pathetic. People like you are a disease, eating away at the 12th from the inside. God help you if the money ever dries up and you have to work for a living.

Why don’t you tell the flood victims in Sharpsburg that he helped. Or how about the folks in Mississippi he pitched in and lent a hand to after Hurricane Katrina.

Tell the people who lost loved ones at the local hospice that he helped that he didn’t care about them.

And most of all, tell the special needs kids that Tim has helped at youth camps.

Tell all of those people that Tim Burns has done nothing for their community. They’ll tell how wrong and ingorant you are.

The theme i get out of it… is that “a miracle will occur” if critz wins the election. LOL!

In all seriousness… Nice ad, but perhaps a little too much going on for a 30 sec. A few of folks in the 12th that i know need a bib to keep from drueling all over themselves. Not sure they have the attention span. Both candidates may be better off with cartoons.

That said, id focus more on policy positions and simplifying them into shorter slogans for the voters. Much more effective ad time spent. A candidate (regardless of party) that doesnt openly disclose things, let alone his or her policy… SUCKS.
