Conservative PAC advertising for Russell
Republican Bill Russell’s insurgent campaign in the 12th Congressional District is getting some help from a political action committee that advocates for limited government.
Freedom’s Defense Fund, which advertised against Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential race and describes itself as standing “with conservative, pro-freedom candidates against the radical left and their elitist allies in the mainstream media,” is airing a 30-second TV spot in support of Russell in the western Pennsylvania district. The ad buy cost the group $26,000, according to campaign finance data. A Republican in the district said the limited ad buy was on cable TV.
The ad calls Russell—a grassroots favorite—a “true conservative” and a “tested leader.”
Russell ran against John Murtha in 2008, but faces an uphill battle in trying to succeed the late congressman this time around. Wealthy businessman Tim Burns is the GOP’s special election nominee for a race that is being held on the same day of the May 18 primary.

A little bit of research would show that the Freedom Defense Fund shares an office with a direct mail fundraising company, Base Connect. This is the firm that raised $2,654,520.30 for Russell in 2009, but left him with only $211,071.69 COH after taking the rest in fees.
They are only running this small buy ad to keep the trough open.

Those shots sure look like clips the camapign has used which would not be legal for a 527 to use.
