A new way out
I don’t know the system perfectly, I’ll be honest. But the Philadelphia Republican Party is a joke, that I know.
I couldn’t find a better definition of corrupt, lazy patronage in the dictionary. But, there is an idea in the back of my head.
Anthony Williams poses a real threat to Tom Corbett. Although strictly political, having a functional Republican party in the city would surely help Corbett. On Wall Street, Eliot Spitzer (dare I say it) looked through the record books to find some old 1921 law to force Wall Street’s bankers to change their ways.
I’m sure Corbett could do the same thing. It is not as if going after Republicans can cost him the nomination, and it sure can’t hurt him anymore in Philly. Despite having Bonusgate on his hands, at least threatening the city establishment by making corruption and patronage one of your priorities as governor can’t hurt.
Maybe for once, the joke won’t be on the state party for losing because of the city, but on the city party for being locked up in a jail cell.
