Two ex-lawmakers back Marino in 10th District
Two former state Senators endorsed Republican Tom Marino’s congressional bid Thursday, giving the former U.S. Attorney more party support as he seeks his party’s nod to take on Congressman Chris Carney (D-10).
Former state Senators Charles Lemmond (R-Luzerne) and Roger Madigan (R-Bradford County) backed Marino over Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk and Luzerne County chiropractor Dave Madeira.
“I have known Tom since his days as Lycoming County District Attorney,” Madigan said in a statement. “I have always been impressed with his honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic. I can not think of a better qualified man to serve as our next United States Congressman than Tom Marino.”

…and an endorsement from two EX-lawmakers matters because?
I met Marino last week in Delaware Township (Pike County) where he was answering questions along with Commissioner Derk and Dr. Madeira. Marino completely lost it and began yelling at the crowd to bring evidence forward that would connect DeNaples to organized crime. The odd part of it all is that no one ever mentioned DeNaples or corruption. Derk did point out that he was not flying around the district in a private plane while he campaigns but he never pointed out that Marino IS using a private plane to travel between campaign stops.
Having read about the three candidates I thought that Marino would make a great candidate but he was the furthest thing from. All Marino kept talking about was being blue-collar and working in a factory. If I wanted someone who worked in a factory to represent me in Congress I would be running for the office.
I was worried about Derk’s age but he it was clear that he was more mature than Marino and by far the most qualified candidate to represent us in Congress.

I had the same reaction after they spoke at Bucknell on Monday. Marino is supposed to be the mature, experienced candiate, but he seemed disconnected from the whole panel discussion. His comments on the issues showed no depth of understanding. He seemed annoyed to have to be there. And he kept telling us he is currently middle-class and struggles to pay his mortgage. Please! Don’t insult my intelligence.
Madeira is a very fine speaker and does know healthcare issues. He’s a really likeable guy.
And it is surprising to see young Derk coming off as the voice of reason and experience in local government, but he really knows his stuff. I think we’ll be reading more about this 10th district Wunderkind in the months ahead.

Wow it looks like Derk has someone to read and respond to blogs on the internet! Marino is the only guy that can beat Chris Carney. Derk has never worked a day in the private sector. Marino comes from a good middle class family and knows what it’s like to actually work for a living!

If Marino thinks he can sit there and say he’s middle class then he’s very mistaken – I am going o most likely vote for Madeira in the primaries – as he seems to be the most prepared. I am worried about Marino and his connections to casino and insurance company money. He has yet, in my opinion, come forward to aleve our fears of corruption.
Derk i think is too young and – I’m sorry he doesn’t seem that put together
Marino did have a grasp of issues, he just didn’t come across as completely trustworthy to me – again maybe if he would come forward and be forthright with his connections then i wouldn’t be so worried

I have been reading blogs, reading articles online, listening to people and been to a debate. I do not like Derk – he comes off as arrogant and smug.
It does bother me that Marino is flying around in a jet, lives in a very nice part of lycoming county, and makes a very nice living – and still claims to me a hard working middle class guy.
Madeira seems very honest and is likeable – i think his knowledge of the issues is formidable. I also think that unlike Marino – he has the patience to listen to opposing views – where as Marino seems so defensive about his connection to DeNaples. If I was running and DeNaples was my friend, I would come out and explain in full what that relationship is to ease any concern voters might have – I am in agreement with Pete.

Tom Marino are you serious?!? You deal with ths same financial frustrations that many of us are going through? Either you’re lying or you are living WAY above your means! You had a 6-figure salary while working as a US Attorney for 5 years – that’s $500,000 base – which you made more than that – then working for DeNaples you were making 3 to 4 times as much. Life must be really hard for you Mr. Marino, making a couple million dollars in a couple years. Next time you want to call yourself blue collar – make sure you look at your shirt. you might have worked in a factory – but how log ago was that? – and then you go to a rich kids college – ie Dickinson for law school?? give me a break!!! I’d rather vote for Strom Thurmond – he at least admitted he was a wolf – he didn’t go around in the sheep’s clothing
