Tim Burns Tweets bibles and ammo

Tim Burns Tweets bibles and ammo

Twitter remains a straightforward, to-the-point message medium in contemporary politics, and Republican congressional hopeful Tim Burns had something to say Sunday that fit easily enough in 140 characters.

“went 2 church with my boys then 2 buy ammo 4 our .45 cal,” Burns wrote [sic]. “Guess Obama was right about us clinging 2 r guns and bibles!”

Burns, who last week won the GOP nomination for the 12th District special election, was referring to then-candidate Barack Obama’s infamous statement during the presidential campaign that rural Pennsylvania voters “cling” to guns and religion.

Church & ammo – Scott Roeder found it to be a wonderful combination, too. Not so wonderful for Dr. George Tiller, though, was it?

Just goes to show Tim’s not a stuffed shirt. You can call him names, but REAL southwestern PA residents identify with this.

Obama is a coward and a racist. If a white man had said the same thing about black people from the South Side of Chicago the NAACP would still be protesting them. Apparently hatred and bigotry towards some groups is acceptable in the Democrat Party. Tim Burns will get my vote. Wealthy or not, he understands Western PA.

This little comment has clearly done a wonderful job of stirring up the base. Critz can sit back and relax while the hatred and fear of the right begins to alientate moderate voters. Mr. Burns’ candidacy will truly be a gift to the Democratic Party.

  15. [...] Pa2010, here's a Tweet posted yesterday by District 12 GOP candidate Tim [...]

  16. John

    Mar 15th, 2010

Critz himself talks up his “conservative Democrat” roots on his webpage, talking about his strong belief in the 2nd amendment, his belief in God, marriage only between a man and woman, and being pro-life. People from the crazy left Philly ‘burbs think Burns’ comments were odd, but not people in the 12th. Don’t look for Critz to criticize Burns on this, unless he has a career deathwish.

  17. Will

    Mar 15th, 2010

Contest idea… if he were a Democrat, what would he have tweeted?

  18. TB

    Mar 15th, 2010

Critz will not attack him on it because he doesn’t have to; the statement speaks for itself. The Republican candidate, as is typical of Republicans since the Reagan era, is trying to paint the Democrat as lacking the moral compass that ‘values voters’ seek in a candidate. In other words if you are not out shoving creationism, abstinence, and gun rights down your neighbors throat you don’t pass their smell test.

The reason that the, “People from the crazy left Philly ‘burbs,” have been voting for Democrats rather than Republicans is simply because they detest candidates that beat the war drums on social issues. Many hold a grab bag of views on social issues and do not have a place in a Republican Party that says, “you are not one us if you don’t agree with all of our social views.”

You will never see a Democratic candidate campaign wearing religion on their sleeve. Not necessarily because they lack a faith life but more so because they are firm believers in the separation of church and state.

TB, you’re joking, right? You can’t keep liberal white Democrats out of the black church. They want everyone to see how progressive and tolerant they are. Bill Clinton would go to a church in Harlem every week. Hillary and Biden do the same. Obama went to a racist church for decades, even though it was only racist on the days that he was absent apparently. At the beginning of every House session a church leader says a prayer. That happens in our Congress while DEMOCRATS are running the show. Kind of makes you sick a little, doesn’t it? Personally, I couldn’t care less if the crazies from the philly burbs votes for Democrats. I think that’s a good thing. Let them become New Jersey. I hope every Democrat they elect raises their taxes, teaches their children that homosexuality is the way to go, atheism is correct, and white people are evil. Liberalism will turn Montgomery County into Detroit within 10 years. The sad thing is that those losers that voted for the Democrats will simply move to Chester, York, and Lancaster and keep voting for liberals. What a bunch of sad, sexually-confused fools they are.

In regards to this comment from Carrie Wright:

“Just goes to show Tim’s not a stuffed shirt. You can call him names, but REAL southwestern PA residents identify with this.”

Please, I’m confused, so two questions: Describe what a REAL southwestern PA resident is? And what is a FAKE southwestern PA resident?

  21. TB

    Mar 15th, 2010

No you probably cant keep liberal white Democrats out of African American churches. You can’t keep them out of African American civic centers, neighborhoods, or barber shops. African Americans are a vital part of our diverse Democratic Majority. The Republican Party’s lack of tolerance for persons other than wealthy, white, conservative, racist males explains why they find themselves in the minority in both the House and Senate.

And indeed you are correct that the House and Senate start every working day with prayer. That is a tradition that both parties support; it is not a Democratic or Republican innovation. It is a great tradition from the early days of our Republic. So no John, it does not make me sick. It is different in nature than shoving creationism, abstinence, and gun rights down your neighbors throat while beating a Bible with preacher Bob

As for your other comments about how, “the philly burbs votes,” it may be of some interest to you. As I am sure an astute student of politics like yourself knows, traditionally carrying Philadelphia and its five surrounding counties can very well mean carrying the Commonwealth. George W. Bush and his neo-con friends like you should know that well considering you all lost that region and therefore the Commonwealth twice. Oh, and again in 2008. And way back in 1992, and 1996 too!

Sarcastic comments like, ‘homosexuality is the way to go,’ ‘white people are evil,’ and ‘sexually confused fools,’ are revolting to the moderates and independents in the ‘philly burbs’ and alienate them from the Republican Party. You are slowly creating the Great Permanent Minority.

Oh My God: A guy who is MIA, who has a spotty voting record, the greatest American privelege and who never contributed a dime to the GOP or its candidates, now is trying to convince us he’s Colonel Bill Russell? Russell is right Burns in not ready for prime time. He has spent too much time in country clubs. Country Club boredom is no reason to run for Congress. Mr. Burns stop doing us a big favor. We voters in the 12th need a Congressman who really is serous about this job!

  23. John

    Mar 15th, 2010

TB, how can someone ram gun rights down their neighbors throat? It’s in the Constitution, just like freedom of religion is. Can someone ram freedom of speech down anothers throat? If you don’t like the 2nd amendment, then do something about it. Or, is whining on some vague website your idea of changing the world? Again, I don’t care what you do in the Philly burbs, but stay out of Western PA. I don’t want your liberal filth in my community. Don’t push your sick views on us normal folks, ok?

    Mdog:
Haha. Name the country club Burns allegedly belonged or belongs to. You can’t because he doesn’t. You act like a leftist, trying to impugn someone for having worked to achieve the American dream – which is possible for ALL of us. Really? You think it’s bad for someone to start a business from scratch and build it up through hard work, perseverence, and overcoming setbacks? If all Russell supporters play the class warfare/envy card like you do, you can’t call yourself or selves conservatives. What a shame that you have to try to adopt a leftist tactic to smear a good man. You’re helping Burns by trying to attack the American Dream – Americans celebrate when someone starts a business and builds it up. Again, what a shame that you resort to leftist tactics. Shame on you.

I can assure you that Tim Burns has never belonged to a country club. When you really know the man this comment just makes you LAUGH. Also I have never, ever, ever known Tim to ever be bored.
Please if you are going to comment, actually KNOW what you are saying about someone. He LOVES this country and wants to make a difference.

He hit on three things his constituents care about: family, religion, 2nd Amendment. He utilized the 1st Amendment to share his message. Sounds like a winning strategy to me.

In replying to Hopsman: How can you be pro life and pro guns?
Thats not too hard for me to explain. Every child has a right to life and every human has a right to bear arms. I know that you would then ask me where is the right to choose to give life or not, and my answer would be that you made that choice when you decided to engage in “the activity” in the first place.
Do not take away my only way to defend me and my loved ones, thats when you give away your rights.

I am pro life and pro guns. When we weren’t yet financially ready to have children my husband and I took measures to avoid it. Only if I absolutely need to will I shoot someone. And boy, do I love God and Church! That, not bleeding hearts and handouts is what made this a great country. That is also what is taking it back. God bless you, Tim.
    I AM THE TEA PARTY!

    May 2nd, 2010

The difference is Critz has class and Tim Burns does not. If you look at the commercials you can see that Burns is grasping at straws, being the typical Republican spreading fictional rumors that only people who believe all email forwards are true will believe. Critz just clarifies fact from fiction and moves on to tell what he really wantx to do for us. If Burns was classier with his ads I would have considered him, but the fact he lacks class takes his vote away from me.

If Tim Burns is pro-life and pro-gun I will vote for him. However, he has not answered my email asking him to confirm that he is pro-life and pro-gun. I want to hear it from him. Are you listening Tom? If you don’t listen now, how can we be sure you will listen after you are in office.
