Robo-calls target Dent’s vote against health care

A day after Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15) joined in unanimous GOP opposition to health care reform legislation, a liberal group launched robo-calls targeting him and the Lehigh Valley district Democrats are eager to capture.

The group, Americans United for Change, said it had was making “thousands” of the robo-calls.

Last weekend, Congress passed the health reform bill to reign in the power of the big insurance companies and guarantee that regular people can get the same kind of insurance as members of congress,” the call says. “But Congressman Charlie Dent voted against that.”

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan, a White House recruit, is running against Dent.

“Just like Social Security or Medicare or civil rights, lawmakers like Charlie Dent who voted to protect the status quo will find themselves on the wrong side of history,” Tom McMahon, the executive director of Americans United for Change, said in a statement. “Charlie Dent made a different kind of history by voting to deny Pennsylvania families access to the same kind of insurance he enjoys very much as a member of Congress. If it’s good enough for him, shouldn’t it be good enough for the people of Pennsylvania?”
