PA AFL-CIO Endorses Arlen Specter
By ARLEN SPECTER FOR SENATE
Harrisburg — The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO voted overwhelmingly today to endorse Senator Arlen Specter for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
The AFL’s 34-9 vote, a 79-21% victory for Specter, easily cleared their two-thirds requirement for an endorsement.
Specter thanked Bill George, President of the Pa. AFL-CIO, for the strong endorsement by his organization. “I will continue to fight hard for Pennsylvania’s working families,” said Specter.
“It is very meaningful to have the backing of Pennsylvania’s working men and women, 900,000 strong, especially in a Democratic primary,” concluded Specter.
Bill George said, “We’re supporting a candidate who will stand up for the character of workers, stand up for their households, to enhance the education system, to enhance the health care system, to address social problems and advance a progressive society that takes all of America to a higher level.”
Pa. AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Rick Bloomingdale announced the endorsement and said, “We have a terrific United States Senator who is running for re-election, and we proudly endorse Arlen Specter for the U.S. Senate.”
The Pa. AFL-CIO, which represents more than 900,000 workers across the state, also endorsed Specter in 2004.
