McKeesport Mayor Endorses Dan Onorato for Governor

By ONORATO FOR GOVERNOR

McKeesport, PA:  Today, McKeesport Mayor James Brewster officially endorsed Dan Onorato as the next governor of Pennsylvania.  The Mayor also criticized Tom Corbett for ridiculing Pennsylvania’s acceptance of Federal Stimulus funds. McKeesport received more than $800,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to purchase new police vehicles, hire 3 additional full time officers and upgrade SWAT and computer equipment. The endorsement adds to the growing support Onorato has received from elected officials across the Commonwealth.

“If Tom Corbett was governor, millions of dollars of funding would have gone to communities in other states and we would have fewer cops on the street in McKeesport today,” said Mayor Brewster. “It’s that lack of knowledge and experience in running a large government that makes Tom Corbett unfit to take charge of Pennsylvania.”

As County Executive, Dan Onorato worked to bring thousands of high-growth jobs to Allegheny County, reform government and reduce waste to save residents millions of dollars.  Allegheny County now has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state and in the nation.

As Governor, Onorato will encourage economic growth in Pennsylvania and help create family-sustaining jobs.  Onorato’s plan has five (5) central tenets:

·         Establish a climate where businesses can succeed;
·         Launch a “Grow Your Own” success strategy to help firms start, expand and prosper;
·         Encourage entrepreneurship and innovation;
·         Boost export opportunities for Pennsylvania companies and attract foreign companies to the state; and
·         Ensure that Pennsylvania’s workforce is prepared for and able to access high-skill, well-paying jobs.

Onorato will work to make Pennsylvania’s communities safer and improve the pursuit of justice.  To achieve this, Onorato supports:

·         Getting illegal handguns off the streets;
·         Strengthening local law enforcement;
·         Keeping minors safe;
·         Supporting victims of crime;
·         Reducing corrections costs;
·         Ensuring appropriate sentencing;
·         Promoting justice throughout the state’s courts; and
·         Promoting safety for all Pennsylvanians.

“As Allegheny County Executive, I appreciate the challenge of managing a large budget in a way that prioritizes public safety.” said Onorato. “Mayor Brewster recognizes that responsibility as well, and I am honored to have his endorsement to be the next leader of Pennsylvania.”

In supporting Onorato, Mayor James Brewster joins a growing list of Pennsylvania elected officials, including endorsements from a dozen southwestern county commissioners, Luzerne County Commissioner Maryanne Petrilla, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, Easton Mayor Salvatore J. Panto, Jr., State Representatives Mike Gerber and Tony Payton, Jr., State Senators Daylin Leach and Andy Dinniman and Congressman Patrick Murphy.  Onorato has also won major statewide endorsements from organized labor, including the Pennsylvania State Education Association, United Steelworkers and the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters, as well as several locals.
