LGBT Community Leaders Endorse Senator Specter
By ARLEN SPECTER FOR CONGRESS
Philadelphia — Marking the launch of SpecterPride more than 65 Pennsylvanian LGBT leaders endorsed Senator Arlen Specter today at the William Way Center in Philadelphia.
SpecterPride is the statewide group of LGBT Pennsylvanians who are supporting Senator Specter’s re-election in 2010.
Mark Segal, publisher of the Philadelphia Gay News said, “Our unprecedented, overwhelming support here today is meant to send a message. We believe strongly that the threat from the Republican candidate, a candidate that is far more conservative than ousted former Senator Rick Santorum, can only be answered by the strongest Democratic candidate, Arlen Specter, who has a record of speaking for the people of Pennsylvania.”
Philadelphia Attorney Abbe Fletman commended Senator Specter for his strong support of LGBT issues. “He will not let issues go before we get the right result. Being a fighter is going to be incredibly important in this election. The fighters of our community need to be out fighting, as we are today, for Senator Arlen Specter.”
“I am delighted to have your support in the name of equality and nondiscrimination,” Senator Specter said. “Equality means opportunity on a level playing field. I accept your support with great pride.”
