LEFTOVERS: Vodvarka gets to debate, coffee with Roher & Scranton, PA-6 is competitive
The little guy in the Senate race will get to share a stage with the big guns.
Democrat Joe Vodvarka was invited Wednesday night to join the May 1 debate between Senator Arlen Specter and Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7), The Morning Call reports.
“We’re looking forward to that one,” Vodvarka’s son Jesse said.
Meanwhile, GOP gubernatorial underdog Sam Rohrer will be getting a boost from former Lieutenant Governor Bill Scranton, when Scranton joins the state lawmaker and conservative crusader at the latest “Coffee with Sam” event this weekend in in downtown Scranton. During the Saturday morning event, they’ll talk about Rohrer’s plan to eliminate the school property tax and creating jobs through reduced regulations.
And in case anyone didn’t already know, yes, the race in the 6th Congressional District is competitive—the most competitive in the nation, by one measure. That’s the conclusion of a University of Minnesota study that ranked the suburban Philadelphia at the top of its list of competitive House districts in the country between 2002 and 2008. The district, according to the study, is the only one in the country to be decided by less than 10 points in each of the last four election cycles. Democrats Doug Pike and Manan Trivedi are battling for the opportunity to take on incumbent Republican Jim Gerlach, who has survived each of those close calls in the past.

I hope that Joe (Sestak, that is) asks Joe (Vod Varka) about funding and organization help that his campaign received, and where it came from.

Bruce, where are you going with this? Any proof? I enjoy Vod Varkas website and want him to stay in for some laughs.

Bruce-
Im hoping Vod Varka asks Joe what he thinks about sweatshop labor and treating non-relative workers poorly.

WESTPADEM6: Or what Representative Sestak thinks about elected officials who fondle the gentials of their (undoubtedly long-suffering) aides, or labor racketeers who swindle the members of their unions, or any number of topics…

VodVarka has stated that, so far, he’s self-funding his campaign with his social security checks. The end of the quarter is coming up in less than two weeks, and by the time of the debate, the FEC reports will be filed. Joe (Sestak, that is) need only read the filing.

Trying to remove an opponent from the ballot if it is to your advantage to do so is a perfectly acceptable but perfectly standard political ploy.
It gets a little schizophrenic in the case of Sestak’s efforts to oust Vod Varka since Joe is always trying to posture as an earnest, virginal non-political type, as compared to nearly everyone else.
I don’t fault Sestak for trying to win, but spare us the “Mr.Smith goes to Washington” act.

And who circulated his petitions, Dave? As I’ve said, it’s not just money but organizational assistance that I’m questioning. I have no information, just curiousity. Getting onto the Senate ballot is no easy task, especially for a self-confessed “regular guy.”

Probably volunteers who wanted a real Joe For the working class instead of your fake Joe.

Easy to say, Westie. Not so easy to do without an organization, especially in a statewide race. Ask anyone who’s been there.

I love the unintended irony:
“Not so easy to do without an organization, especially in a statewide race. Ask anyone who’s been there.”
Because, Sestak has failed to generate an “organization” himself that can compete statewide.

Joe Vod Warka is a great candidate. I love his everyoman’s appeal.
However, he is about as far from a Democrat as one can get!
He should run as Republican, I would vote for him.
