FORMER STATE SEN. CONNIE WILLIAMS ENDORSES STATE SEN. ANTHONY HARDY WILLIAMS FOR GOVERNOR

By WILLIAMS FOR GOVERNOR

PHILADELPHIA, March 30 – Citing his proven leadership, vision, and understanding of the challenges facing Southeastern Pennsylvania, leading Montgomery County Democrat and former state Sen. Connie Williams today endorsed state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams in the Democratic primary for governor.

“There are a number of strong candidates in the Democratic primary,” said Connie Williams.  “I have had the good fortune to work with them in the past.  However, I believe it’s more critical than ever to support a candidate who believes in our party’s principles and who also has the courage to embrace new ideas and new solutions.

“As a Democrat, I believe the best choice for Democratic primary voters is state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams.”

Connie Williams represented Pennsylvania’s 17th Senate District from 2001 to 2009 when she decided to retire.  Prior to that, she represented the 149th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1997 to 2001.  She currently serves as the chairperson of the board of directors for Steppingstone Scholars, Inc., an organization dedicated to helping educationally underserved students in the greater Philadelphia region achieve academic success.

“I’ve worked with Tony for years and I have always been impressed with his vision, intelligence, and passion for the people he serves,” added Connie Williams.  “His early leadership in developing the Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force, his support for families and a woman’s right to choose, and his work in helping create jobs through education and innovation underscore values we share.  I am proud to endorse him to be our next governor of Pennsylvania.”

Connie Williams’s endorsement comes on the heels of the endorsements of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and state Rep. Dwight Evans last week, adding to state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams’s growing campaign momentum and his base of support in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of someone who I respect, not only as a former colleague, but as a person who has an intimate understanding of the needs and priorities of Pennsylvania,” said state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams.  “Connie Williams knows this state and she knows what we need to get back on track.  Reforming our schools, creating jobs, cracking down hard on gun violence and illegal guns, and getting Pennsylvania’s economy growing again. These are priorities I share with Connie and, as governor, these will be the issues we tackle.”
