A Glenside Tea Party
Suburban Snapshot made it out to the Tea Party rally in Glenside this week. The Kitchen Table Patriots and the Thomas Jefferson Club were my hosts, and contrary to some liberal conventional wisdom, these folks aren’t fanatics.
Creativity was there in abundance. The homemade signs were clever, and definitely got the point across that the Democrats need to slow down on ramming through this health care reform bill. One of the best signs I saw was a picture of a little girl with the saying below, “I’m only three years old and already I owe the government $40,000.”
In addition, this crowd of over 200 patriots from Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties believed that the current health care proposal by President Obama and his administration needs to be addressed, discussed, and rewritten with calmer, conservative minds.
Republican Mike Fitzpatrick, an 8th District congressional candidate for whom I work, told the crowd that “we can’t sit back any longer after what’s being proposed for our health care system. [Patrick] Murphy should stop hiding from his own constituents and allow the people of the 8th District to have a voice in the process.”
Other Republican candidates that spoke included Dee Adcock, a candidate in the 13th District; Gloria Carlineo, another candidate in the 8th District; Steve Lonegan, Director of the New Jersey chapter of Americans For Prosperity; Dr. Robert Sklaroff, a local conservative activist; and talk radio host Dom Giordano.
Say what you will about the Tea Party movement, but these members are not content to sit and watch life go by. These are people who believe in fiscal responsibility and a constitutional government—and they want their voices heard.
Like Thomas Jefferson said, “In matters of principle, stand like a rock.”

It is shameful how Congressman Murphy is avoiding speaking out about this heatlh care proposal. Pro or con WE THE PEOPLE of his district deserve to understand what he is voting on. This is too big an issue for him not to explain it and his vote to us BEFORE voting. He is home this weekend and attending a Flyers game. For $1500 donations he will speak to you I guess. Great website shows the invite. 2 nights ago it was $5000 with the Defense industry which he has oversight on…ugh…

I wonder where all of these “patriots” were when Bush was outspending all previous presidents, giving tax cuts to the rich, passing a medicare prescription benefit, bailing out wall street bankers and running two wars (all without funding)?

J Smith,
Many of us Bush “Supporters” were deeply upset by the spending. It is part of the reason many left the Republican party and is the genesis for the Tea Party Movement. I also find it ironic that Bush is attacked from the left for the Medicare Rx benefit. The only “fix” that the current Obamacare legislation has is to fill the “donut hole” It passed with bi-partisan support (unlike Obamacare) and yes it was too expensive and I was opposed to it.
As for the bank bail out, again, bi-partisan (Obama loved it) and many Conservatives were against it.
Tax cuts…well, that I liked, but they expire next year and you will have your tax increases on everyone that got that tax cut.

Why would Beth Hegedus neglect to mention that this Stop ObamaCare Press Conference and Rally at Arcadia University was organized and sponsored by the Independence Hall Tea Party?
