It was a good night for Democrats in the 6th district (Tuesday eve) both Manan Trivedi and Doug Pike addressed the Lower Merion Democratic Party and the general public in a public forum held at Narberth Boro hall.

The candidates were civil, knowledgable, and either canidate will make a worthy opponent to Congressman Jim Gerlach.

May the best man win on May 18th primary day.

Good point Doug Kahn, but if the habitual voter comes to the poll without knowledge of the candidates (especially in a primary) they are looking to see what their party says, exception in a general election because then the uninformed voter is just voting Democrat if they are a registered D, or vice versa, vote Republican if they are a registerd R, just keeping their party line going.

But in primaries you have a choice of probably two people (in this case, Pike and Trivedi) who are pretty darn similiar on the issues, in fact, from what I’ve heard they really haven’t discussed the issues between them too much. So, what is the voter to do…well, the voter (if they are the habitual voter as you call it) does some research prior to voting or they just look at ads and then it comes down to who do you like better, or another way of saying it, who would you like to have a beer (or, in my case a chardonnay) with? Sof ar, the voters in the 6th district have two Democrats with strikingly different stories and demeanors. So, that is the choice so far.

Primaries are decided overwhelmingly by habitual voters. The ‘slates’ that people hand out; you think these voters follow them? That only happens when voters don’t know anything about the candidates. Winning the county committee’s endorsement is a positive, for sure. But don’t imagine that it has much of an effect at the polls. In general, people are skeptical of endorsements coming from political parties. Newspaper endorsements mean very little, for the same reason.

I read over “Steve’s” remarks and thought they were strange when he said, “I met Trivedi, Unfortunately, his understanding of policy seems to be very basic at best.” That’s funny reading over Trivedi’s bio on his website indicates just the opposite: Trivedi was a healthcare advisor to the Obama campaign, he has a masters degree in public policy from UCLA, he was a health advisor to the Navy Surgeon General and he is currently a primary care physician. That all seems far from basic – seems rather impressive actually.
Also, that same person, “Steve” calls Trivedi marginally charismatic when telling his life story or mocking the Republicans. This point is laughable because actually when Doug Pike tells his life story it’s a story with hardly any personal details except when he talks about when he wrote editorials that went along with the Bartlett and Steele stories from years ago, titled, “What went wrong.” Pike then goes on to harp on the Republicans about “what went wrong” (get the connection) And saying the Republicans are the party of no. So, actually Steve is sort of accusing the wrong person of mocking the Repuplicans, it’s actually Pike, not Trivedi. I watched on youtube Pike giving this exact speech to the Chester County Democrats (watch it and you’ll see what I am saying) Pike does talk about his brother who had cancer (sorry for that) and relates the story to those who may have no health care, etc, his brother fortunately did have insurance and is apparently doing well. I also watched on youtube Trivedi give an early speech to the Berks County Democrats (it’s a little grainy, but worth watching) he never “mocks” Republicans and actually he seems very bright and knowledgeable about subjects including healthcare.

so what if Pike wants to can or will buy the Election at least we will get the seat when Pike wins The Primary and Then He can Buy the general Election Thats a Good Thing Corzine and several Other people have bought elections Just as lond as it ends up in Democratic Hands Thats a good thing

Interesting that Pike states he’s raised 1 million dollars, but reality is (check the FEC filings if you don’t believe it) over $900,000 of the money is actually his money. So, I agree with “interesting” that Pike wants to buy the election. Yes, he did raise over $300,000 (that’s nice) but he also got in the race back in the Spring when no one else was running so he had more time to make phone calls.

Let’s face it…Pike is boring and wants to buy the election. His only positive is that he has money. I view that as a negative…I don’t appreciate entitled people representing me.
