The low-down on Sestak’s flight jacket
WEST CHESTER—What’s with the jacket?
For more than two weeks now, Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) and his green jacket with the USS George Washington patch have been seemingly inseparable. It started when he chatted with reporters after Democratic State Committee endorsed primary opponent Arlen Specter earlier this month. Ever since then, it’s been a staple of campaign stops.
Asked about the new dress code while he waited to address Chester County Democrats here Saturday—wearing the jacket, of course—Sestak said he recently lost his leather jacket, and has felt comfortable in his old flight jacket since then.
“It stays in the car,” he told pa2010.com. “I like it. It’s really warm—warmer than the leather.”

Given his current psychological state, perhaps a straight jacket would be more appropriate.

He needs leather, it may him feel better when he loses the election.

Interesting. Except, this doesn’t appear to be his old flight jacket, but a new jacket.
Here’s an OLD picture of Joe with his flight jacket:

Here’s a recent picture with the current jacket:

Notice how the patches have changed, with the older photo showing more patches. What happened to them? The collar looks different too.
A friend of mine, who is an aficionado about patches, told me he thought there were guidelines governing flight jackets and the placement of patches. He thinks Joe’s patch placement is inappropriate. Currently, Joe has placed his single George Washington patch where the name tag usually goes. This is kind of odd.
However, I’m not a military guy, so I’d appreciate some input from people out there that know something about patches.
The current look of it is evocative of the president (which may be Sestak’s long rumored intended goal).
So the question is: Is this really the “his old flight jacket” or a different one? It looks like a different one to me.
Oh, the first photo is from the site: http://stopmebeforeivoteagain.org/pwogwessives/
and comes with this caption:
“Sestak is shown at left, while still an admiral, welcoming Congressman Mike McIntyre on a junket somewhere east of Suez.”
It also contains a creepy description of a Sestak at the June 2006 Daily Kos.

I think what this flight jacket controversy shows is that Joe Sestak is not a real down to earth candidate as he postures himself. He voted for the war even though he said he was against it and tries to appeal to the liberal wing of the party, when he really is all over the map. My concern and hope is that not only does this sort of politician lose, which I believe he will to Spector, but that anyone running for public office, now and in the future, stays true to principal and honesty.

I care more about Health Care reform and jobs than I do about Joe’s attire.
Let’s get real. It’s a coat. And it’s cold outside.

Its not the coat, it is what it represents, and he is a hypocritical candidate.

Sestak seems to put the coat on when he goes INSIDE. That’s part of the problem.
Joe’s trying to trade on his military image as opposed to his Congressional credentials, which are more appropriate for a promotion to Senate.

Patches on those jackets can go anywhere since they have velco on them. Change of duty station Ship, Squardon, Flag etc. can be changed just by switching patches.
As I remember funding for the war it’s it came down to Bush threating the whole defense Budget if he didn’t get his way. I could be wrong on it thou. Sestak had his own bill to stop the war but it didn’t get anywhere on the hill.
Most people seem to forget that in 06 the day after the election. Bush fired the Sec of Def. (that’s what president’s do somebody gets fired remeber the Bay of pigs)since then and the surge that came shortly after we have been on a good coarse in Iraq even thou I belive it was wrong to go in the first place.
If Obama is not only change the name of the mission in Iraq and take credit for it. I don’t see attaching blame to any person who voted to let the funds Continue.

He seems to be using the jacket as a prop to remind everyone of his military credentials (despite being kicked out). His congressional credentals are lackluster.
“Admiral” your stars have lost their luster. Find a new leather jacket.
Sestak has to be a pretty sad candidate, if his choice of jackets generates more attention than the man himself. It’s time to say Goodbye, Sestak.

I gotta agree with anon. Health care, jobs and other pressing issues are more important than a non-news worthy item on Sestak’s jackets.
Specter has been right on with his support for those issues, and so while I wish Sestak well, I think his political career will be going in a different direction than Senate.

Representative Sestak will need a suit of armor to protect him from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Obama Administration at this juncture. His feeble attempts to blackmail federal authorities are giving rise to an unprecedented level of hostility. Rather than deter the ongoing inquiries and probes, Sestak has only exacerbated the situation. Prior to his recent remarks, federal agents viewed this matter as just another criminal case. Now, they are absolutely livid, and want Sestak to atone for his bravado. Obama also did not bear Representative Sestak any ill will prior to last week. Now, the ordinarily composed commander-in-chief is reportedly infuriated and on the warpath. If what I learned today is true, then even I am beginning to pity Representative Sestak.
Is there no one in Sestak’s camp who genuinely is concerned for this madman’s well-being? Why are they permitting this mentally unbalanced individual to further endanger his already bleak prospects for the future? Are they as deranged as he is?

I don’t truly know if all this illegal/FBI Sestak stuff is true. How come a legitimate reporter hasn’t picked up on it yet?

Chesco Dem CP-
I spoke with Hater’s source. I’ve been told that there are several investigative reporters with the story and PUSHING their editors/producers to air the story. There appears to be some politics involved as well as obvious threats of lawsuits/libel etc. from the Sestak side.
I don’t know whether they found a hole in story, or just can’t get confirmation from the FBI. So, it could be a little chicken-and-the-egg. No one broke the Weldon story before the arrest. Also, the FBI got a lot of sh1t about it, so they may be waiting until after the primary.
I’m still digesting the latest revelations, which make the other accusations pale in comparison.
Tonight, I’m almost feeling sorry for Sestak, because I had only been looking to damage him politically. Most of grievances against him are based upon the two-face nature of how he campaign and treated my friends and fellow local Democrats (as well as how I was treated).
I was looking for him to get out of public office and off the taxpayer dime. I figured that most of the charges Hater has talked about would result in dismissal from Congress and a big fine.
Now, based on the revelations I’ve heard (if true), it looks though Joe will be on the taxpayer dime for a long time, but in an orange jumpsuit. I feel bad for his wife and child, who I think are fantastic people and who could suffer greatly, if this goes where I suspect it might.
However, I’m not an investigative reporter, and I’m certainly not the most ‘unbiased’ person.
With Sestak’s latest p1ssing on the White House, I think this is coming to a head sooner rather than later.
BTW, if this is all false and made up, I think it should come to light so Joe can answer the charges as well and put it to rest. But, the cards seem pretty stacked against Sestak getting out of this unscathed.

To David Diano
Stop feeling sorry for Sestak and what you have written. If Sestak had been less ego driven and more protective of himself and family, given these alleged accusations, Sestak would have never run. Your observations are right on and many people on this site are trying to derail Sestak too, probably with good reason, treatment of people and phony campaign.
Keep writing and stop feeling so guilty. You are doing a public service.

Just like in Business or like the president when a new man in installed. He gets to choose his people and that’s what happened to Sestak with Mullen.
This is very different that if you really got thrown out it’s called a discharge not getting fired like the Weldon camp used 4 years ago.
