Meehan speaks out against EFCA, earmarks, public option

PHILADELPHIA—Former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan offered up a conservative critique of Washington Democrats here Tuesday, voicing his opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, a public option of health care and earmark spending in Washington.

He spoke at a candidates’ forum across the street from City Hall, an event sponsored by a coalition of Tea Party activist groups. As the sole declared Republican in the 7th Congressional District, Meehan was the only one of numerous candidates at the forum who spoke without an opponent in juxtaposition. Former Fox29 news anchor Dawn Stensland, who is considering a run, was at the event moderating exchanges with certain candidates, but did not take the stage as a candidate herself. Not surprisingly, she wasn’t the one questioning Meehan. In saying why he should be the candidate to replace incumbent Democrat Joe Sestak, who is running for Senate, Meehan said he is a man of actions, not words and rhetoric.

“We need to go back and give ourselves a voice in D.C. to take on the big government Pelosi politics that are driving us into bankruptcy,” Meehan said.

Asked at one point if he would vote in favor of a law to leave decisions on abortion laws to then states, Meehan said yes, but stated emphatically that he is pro-life.

State Representative Bryan Lentz (D-Delaware) is the overwhelming Democratic front-runner in the May primary.

Someone needs to tell Pat that Republican talking points do not sell in the 7th. I am sure we all understand that he’s not really in touch with the district, having been focused on other issues like chasing Fumo for eight years. Pandering to his base is good if he had a serious primary challenge, but since he does not, the red meat only hurts him.

“We need to go back and give ourselves a voice in D.C. to take on the big government Pelosi politics that are driving us into bankruptcy,” Meehan said.

Funny I rembember I a President Bush that ran the Govt. With Two unpaided wars, a drug program for the drug compaines, a mult tax cuts for the Rich. Sorry I don’t remember President Pelosi.

Please Pat leave the tea Baggers at ice station Zebra where they belong. We the people of the 7th don’t need the hate.

It’s easy to rail against “earmark spending” and “big government…driving us into bankruptcy.” But everyone knows earmarks are a tiny fraction of the federal budget. Meehan has said Washington needs to make “tough decisions” to cut spending: What will he cut?

Will he cut Medicare spending? Will he privatize Social Security? Will he increase taxes on the working class and cut them for the super rich? Those are the proposals in the Republicans’ budget ‘Roadmap.’ Few Republicans are honest enough to support this plan openly. But if Meehan means what he says about spending he should be honest about what he plans to cut. That is, unless he’s just a typical politician, incapable of telling the truth.

So… Meehan panders to Tea Baggers and basically says everything that Sarah Palin said the other night – nothing of any substance at all. and to boot, he starts off saying he’s against worker’s rights to organize.

hes against earmarks…. can cancel him out. Tea baggers… give them enough rope any theyll hang themselves. They seem somewhat of a cult. I saw they are even going after Ron Paul. Paul thinks they are dangerous.

I agree. Republican talking points definitely won’t play in the 7th District. Where does Meehan think he is? Massachusetts? New Jersey? Doesn’t Meehan know that the 7th has been dominated by democrats for 18 of the past 100 years? It doesn’t matter that the democrats control the White House and both houses of Congress. Meehan once had a conversation with Karl Rove. He’ll be lucky to get 55%.
