LEFTOVERS: NRCC hypes Fitzpatrick, PA NOW for Hoeffel, postal workers for Sestak
The National Republican Congressional Committee is trying to draw attention to its leading contender in the 8th Congressional District. The NRCC said that former Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick had reached “On The Radar” status and is on the way to joining its “Young Guns” program. These different designations are tough to follow, but the NRCC lays out organizational and financial benchmarks for achieving them. And hey, it gets their candidates a mention in the press here or there.
Meanwhile, Joe Hoeffel was endorsed by the Pennsylvania chapter of the National Organization for Women, and will get financial support from its political action committee. Hoeffel, who’s staked out a more liberal position on abortion rights than his Democratic rivals for governor, is counting on the organizational support of such groups to make up for other candidates’ financial advantages. “Joe will add family-sustaining jobs to Pennsylvania’s economy, an economy that relies, like the rest of the country, equally on the contribution of women,” said Caryn Hunt, president of the Philadelphia chapter.
And Joe Sestak’s Senate campaign got a little boost from the folks who deliver our mail, when three local postal unions backed his candidacy against Arlen Specter. “Pennsylvania wants a loyal candidate who will work for the people and has already demonstrated a commitment to labor and working families, especially postal issues which are close to our heart,” A.J. Jones, president of American Postal Workers Union Local 2233 in Montgomery County, said in a statement. “Joe Sestak is that candidate and his record speaks for itself.”

Given that Representative Sestak never “delivers” on his various promises, it is odd that postal workers would opt to endorse him. Perhaps those…items from the UFCW local 1776 simply were lost in the mail, eh Mr. Hirschhorn?

I thought the endorsement was a nod to Sestak “going postal” on his employees.

Fitzpatrick is not a strong candidate, nor particularly conservative. I thought the young guns program had some slight meaning, but apparently not.

Well, at least the NRCC has hype for Fitzpatrick, since the voters won’t.
