LEFTOVERS: Kanjorski’s out-of-district support, Specter’s campaign fined, PA-6 debate rescheduled
The Hill did an interesting analysis of Congressman Paul Kanjorski’s (D-11) fourth-quarter fundraising numbers, finding that only four individual donors from the 11th District contributed to his $233,000-haul. At first glance, it certainly plays into Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey O’Brien’s argument that his primary rival is funded by interests remove from local constituencies. But we’ll have to follow this up with a closer analysis of O’Brien’s numbers.
Kanjorski campaign spokesman said the dearth of local donors was to allow those people to contribute to more local candidates.
“It puts a burden on our population, which has a lower income threshold than a lot of other areas,” Mitchell said. “But we have some major events scheduled in the next few weeks, and I think our future FEC reports will reflect a lot more local involvement in the campaign.”
Meanwhile, Senator Arlen Specter’s campaign was fined by the FEC and ordered to return contributions that exceeded federal limits from his 2004 campaign, The Post-Gazette reports. The FEC said Specter himself wasn’t at fault.
And we’re going to have to wait a little longer to see the Republicans running in the 6th District share a stage in debate. The candidates were scheduled to debate Friday evening in Malvern, but because of a foretasted snowstorm, the event has been postponed. No word yet on when they’ll reschedule it for, but we’ll keep you posted.
Stay tuned for lots of news from the Democratic State Committee meeting.

Part of the FEC problem was also that one of the staffers got ill and died.
“The Specter campaign contended that most of the disputed contributions were made during primary season and were re-assigned as general election contributions within the legal limits, but the FEC found that the campaign did not appropriately notify donors of this. The illness and death of a key staffer, the Specter campaign told the FEC, was a partial reason for not sending out all the notices.”
As for the Republican debate… when your party is that white, it’s hard to distinguish you from the snow.

If you’re referring to the death of a legislative staffer and not the death of a campaign staffer working on the Senator’s campaign, you may have identified another reason for the fine.
