If he can’t debate Specter, Sestak wants Toomey
Taking a break from challenging primary opponent Arlen Specter into more campaign debates, Democrat Joe Sestak said Thursday that if Specter won’t share a stage with him more than once more before primary day, Sestak may as well spend some time debating Republican Pat Toomey.
Calling Specter’s and Toomey’s policies “interchangeable,” Sestak said in a statement: “If Arlen Specter won’t fulfill the most basic duty of a public servant to state and explain his views, I’d be happy to have Pat Toomey take his place. Pat and I already had a debate after I offered to discuss health care reform on his home turf in Allentown. It was the only bipartisan town hall on health care in the nation, and despite our very different views we had a constructive discussion that I think was important for the people of Pennsylvania and, I believe, demonstrated what democracy should look like in our country. Pat and I even had a beer afterward.
“This time, Pat, it’s on me,” Sestak added.

I understand Sestak trying to tie Specter to the GOP, but saying Specter and Toomey are interchangeable? I don’t think anybody believes that.

Matt-
Maybe Hater is right that Sestak’s become “unhinged”.
Again, Sestak’s shows his inability to do the simple math of counting:
“Democrat Joe Sestak said Thursday that if Specter won’t share a stage with him more than once more before primary day…”
Now, by my count, Sestak and Specter had a debate at the State committee meeting. So, that’s ONE.
Specter has already agreed to a debate with Sestak a few weeks before the primary. So, that’s TWO.
Now, Joe, pay attention: Two debates is “more than once”.
Also, having scene the Specter vs Sestak debate and the Toomey vs Sestak debate, I’d say Joe is 0 and 2. The next debate with Specter will be strike 3.
As for Joe and his new pal Pat having a beer, Sestak is completely clueless as to why Toomey likes him so much. Toomey lies Sestak because Sestak is damaging to Specter and the Democratic party.
“This time, Pat, it’s on me,” Sestak added.
I guess the joke is on him.
In case anyone hasn’t figured it out, Sestak is starved for press and media attention. (I guess all the love he’s getting here isn’t enough.)
This is another one of Joe’s gimmicks.
BTW, you know how Joe’s been wearing his green military jacket like a prop? Check out this photo of Sestak arriving at the opening of his Philly office.

Notice he’s carrying his jacket. Why? I’m guessing to put it on as a prop for whatever speech he gave indoors. Who doesn’t need their jacket outside, but needs it inside, unless it’s a prop.
Sestak wore his jacket at the Delco Dems convention too for the hour or so he was there. It was roasting in there. I had to take off my light sports jacket and stand near an open window.

Is this really a bad move? Specter’s argument is that he can beat Toomey in a general election. But if Sestak can effectively hold Toomey’s feet to the fire, that’ll go a long way to nullifying Specter’s position.

Martin –
Hypothetically, your point is valid. However, it would require a better performance from Sestak than his last debate with Toomey.
Toomey is a strong debater, and in their Allentown debate, he definitely out-shined Sestak.

Sestak is starved for media coverage. The only press he’s getting is right here and obviously it’s not good news for him.
This smacks of desperation to me. Sestak just isn’t a good orator. Both Specter and Toomey can out debate him. He’ll make a fool of himself again.

Chesco-
Toomey can beat Sestak in a debate with one tongue tied behind his back.
Hmm…. who is helped the most by a Sestak vs Toomey debate? Well, Toomey of course.
Toomey gets some extra coverage and exposure he wouldn’t have otherwise. He gets to look moderate as Sestak fakes being a left-wing progressive. And, he gets to trounce Sestak, which will help his poll numbers.
Sestak’s campaign is all about gimmicks.
Amateurs do tactics. Experts do logistics.

“Unhinged” indeed. The mounting pressure from federal authorities is clearly driving Representative Sestak insane. What other explanation is there for his futile attempts to blackmail the Democratic Party? Surely he must recognize that his adverse criticisms of President Obama and the continuation of his ill-considered Senate bid will only further antagonize the powers-that-be. Influential Dems will not succumb to blackmail, the President most assuredly will not. The federal probe will continue unabated (indeed, the pressure will likely intensify) and Sestak will atone for his many transgressions. Unfortunately, Representative Sestak’s unfolding mental breakdown has rendered him incapable of grappling with empirical reality. Thus, he will continue his self-destructive pattern. Much to the delight, incidentally, of his (many)opponents.

Toomey’s a far-right nut case. And Sestak will be in handcuffs soon. Specter by a landslide.

Hey Chesco Dem, Toomey has the people, and far right or not, Pa is a conservative state.

Specter has the people too. He’ll take the middle ground while Toomey will be far right.
