Corbett up big over Dem rivals
Attorney General Tom Corbett holds wide leads over his potential Democratic rivals for governor, according to a new poll.
The Rasmussen survey released Thursday showed Corbett leading three different Democratic candidates, each by at least 20 points. He edges Auditor General Jack Wagner 49 percent to 28 percent; Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel 51 percent to 29 percent; and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato 52 percent to 26 percent.
In each matchup, at least 15 percent of voters remain undecided. The poll did not survey matchups with Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty or state Senator Anthony Williams (D-Philadelphia).
Corbett’s showings above the 50-percent mark were higher than he’s fared in most other public polls, but underscore the free publicity he’s garnered from his well-known investigation of legislative corruption in Harrisburg.
The survey of 500 likely voters had a margin of error of 4.5 percent.

Hmmm…think Joe Hoeffel could use that info I provided you with the other day, Mr. Hirschhorn? It certainly could raise burning questions about Corbett’s action/inaction. Looks like Hoeffel would likely demand an immediate inquiry, thereby undermining Corbett and…the other party I mentioned. He has to do something to alter the dynamics of this race.

Jack Wagner is much too conservative for my taste. Joe Hoeffel is a great candidate…socially progressive, but fiscally conservative. But he, and the rest of the Dems for that matter, need to find Corbett’s weak spots. Pronto.

Rasmussen polls “R” biased and should be taken with several grains of salt.

With all the usual caveats about this pollster being biased our way the further out from an election we are, it is evident that our prosecutor is riding the wave of Rendell and Obama disillusion.
Except for Wagner, every other Dem tested in the Governor poll and earlier Senator poll has a negative favorability! It is astonishing that with the registration edge as it is that Obama, Rendell, Specter, Sestak, Hoeffel and Onorato all have negative favorable or approval ratings.
Wagner, once again as in the last three Raz polls, is the exception to this negative personal perception. He is at plus twelve favorability which is why I believe he is dangerous to our prosecutor. Indeed, Wagner still runs best against our prosecutor in the general and that is a factor which has not changed in months either.
Let us hope that Ed Spendell continues to carry his boy Dan Onorato on his back and across the finish line in the primary. Dan is not going to do it on his own. He remains most despised in the area where he is best known. That is not good.
Joe Hoeffel is well positioned for the primary but I do not think that he can backpedal to the middle fast enough for the general.

The longer that Beer Tax Dan stays in the race, the further behind he gets. He’s not doing so hot with snow removal, either.

I like Hoeffel, I really do. One of the first campaigns (04) I ever helped with, but he can’t win in this climate against Corbett. It’s really hard to defend a real legislative record like Hoeffel would have to in a general election. It’s unfortunate for a lot of people I know who support him.
I might not agree with everything Wagner says, but he’s the perfect candidate to go toe-to-toe with Corbett. He’s our best shot.

I agree with Will, this Rasmussen Poll is racist, neocon, warmonger garbage. The DailyKos has Hoeffel beating Corbett 97%-3%. Besides, when was the last time Rasmussen was right on anything? They have Obama’s approval at 46% and we know that isn’t true. They have Specter waaaaay behind Toomey, and we all know that everyone loves Arlen, so that’s a lie. Besides, I’m sure all the other polls have Corbett getting crushed. I bet Quinnipiac has Corbett down 70 points. If they don’t, then we know they are a bunch of right-wing bible thumping liars!!!

@Kevin
according to real clear politics, Quinnipiac has Obama’s approval rating at 45%.

Danny loses 52-26 in the poll? Does he view this as “a win” too – just like when he got crushed in the endorsement vote last weekend?

It’s very early in the election cycle, Corbett is riding the wave of prosecutions that he has engineered against both parties (he was out there with Perzel and Perzel’s top people working to raise funds for his governor’s run with their help while he was investigating Perzel and his people). Another thing that Corbett lacks is ideas on how to run the state government. His words have largely been as empty as a Tea Bagger convention when it comes to policy initiatives and vision. As the campaign grinds down on him, the perceptions can swing away from him as long as he’s a lightweight in the Solution Department.

Joe Hoeffel is a lefty loon. I am “sure” that he will play real well in the “T” with his efette persona and government at all costs approach, I hope he does win the Dem Primary, so Corbett can bury him.
Frank, The Daily Kos??? LMAO that white liberal guilt, America Hating, self loathing bastion of far left communist insanity? As I recall, they also had Martha Coakley winning, and “we know that isn’t true” so keep on reading that to delude yourself.

When are Democrats going to start voting for people who care about Democratic issues? Wagner can’t help but hide in the middle, hoping his conservative ideas will stay hidden through the Primary. And as long as the Sun comes up every day, Dan Onorato will be corrupt. I’m starting to like this Hoeffel guy more and more. At least he’s a Democrat who talks like a Democrat.
