Buchanan for Congress Release

By BUCHANAN FOR CONGRESS

WEXFORD, PA – Former U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today that she will seek the Republican nomination for Congress in Pennsylvania’s Fourth Congressional District. The campaign will be holding kick-off events throughout the district in the coming weeks.

“As a federal prosecutor, I have devoted my entire professional life to public service and rose to the rank of U.S. Attorney for Western Pennsylvania. I have always understood that I was accountable to our citizens to keep our communities safe and our taxpayers to protect their hard earned money,” stated Buchanan. “Like most Americans, I am concerned about the miss-placed priorities in Washington and our broken system of government,” remarked Buchanan.

“I am running for Congress because Washington needs a new direction. Even Joe Biden said today that Washington is a broken system of government with out-of-control spending. (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100217/D9DTU9VO0.html) Jason Altmire is part of the problem because he sides with liberals in Washington including Nancy Pelosi over families here at home. Just last month, he voted with fellow liberals to spend up to $50 million to buy beachfront property in the Caribbean Islands that most people in Western Pennsylvania will never be able to visit,” asserted Buchanan. “In just the last year, our deficit has more than tripled from $400 billion to over $1.9 trillion because of the reckless spending plans that Jason Altmire has joined with liberal Nancy Pelosi in supporting,” commented Buchanan. “Throughout my career in public office, I have worked to protect taxpayers and end waste in government, and I will take the same determination and fighting spirit to Washington,” concluded Buchanan.

On September 14, 2001, Mary Beth was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Western Pennsylvania’s United States Attorney becoming the first woman and one of the youngest appointees Pennsylvania history. As US Attorney, she worked tirelessly to prosecute criminals in 25 counties – increasing prosecutions by nearly 300%.  Buchanan implemented innovative programs to take on drug dealers, violent criminals, and terrorists to make our communities safer. Mary Beth Buchanan served as Director of the Justice Department’s Executive Office of US Attorneys where she administered an operating budget of over $1.6 billion and initiated cost savings to overcome deficits in 2004 and 2005.

Pennsylvania’s Fourth Congressional District covers all of Lawrence County, most of Beaver County, the northern part of Allegheny County, the southern part of Butler County, and small portions of both Mercer and Westmoreland counties.
