Aichele drops Lt. Gov. bid

Aichele drops Lt. Gov. bid

Chester County Commissioner Carol Aichele said Sunday that she was ending her bid for Lieutenant Governor, taking a southeast candidate out of the picture just days before the state Republican Party meets to make a formal endorsement next weekend.

Aichele made her announcement in an e-mail to supporters late Sunday night. It came shortly after the completion of the GOP’s regional caucus straw votes, and was largely an acknowledgment that her sub-par showing in those votes would have made continuing a campaign exceedingly difficult. Critical votes went to southeast rivals Jim Cawley and Joe Watkins, and no one expected the state party to endorse her when it meets in Harrisburg. With less than $12,000 in campaign cash on hand at the end of last year, her eventual withdrawal was widely assumed.

“Since I entered this race last June,” Aichele wrote, “my number one priority has always been to help Tom Corbett become the next Governor of Pennsylvania. Even though I will no longer be a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, I remain committed to this priority. I will do everything I can to help Tom and will work so that he will win Chester County by the largest margin possible.

“I believe it is imperative that we unite behind Tom and that our party endorse one candidate for Lieutenant Governor,” she added. “Unnecessary and expensive primary campaigns will only hurt our chances of defeating the Democrats this fall.”

A great candidate with a great future. Despite what the vote count may indicate, she was amongst the top three candidates going into the endorsement. The Republican Party needs more qualified women like Carol Aichele.

Republican Lt. Gov. Candidate Jim Cawley is the Earmarking Establishment Insiders’ choice and no wonder. http://jrjim.blogspot.com/

The Incestuous Incumbency’s interest is business as usual; Jim Cawley, a Bucks County Commissioner, is Special Counsel to law firm of Saul Ewing. Carole Aichele’s husband, Stephen Aichele, is chair of SaulEwing. SaulEwing Bond Counsel partner, Tim Carson, is one of Pennsylvania Turnpike Commissioners who votes for bond work and legal work for Turnpike Commissioner along with Penna. Turnpike Commissioner Pat Deon, Bucks County Republican Insider, who is also Chair of SEPTA, and a financier of Jim Cawley. SaulEwing Bond Counsel linking Hacks all over SE Pennsylvania.

Carol Aichele would have been a tremendous boost to the GOP ticket with independents and other voters, especially suburban soccer moms. It’s disappointing that some people in the party don’t recognize that fact. The Democrats have a 1.2 million voter advantage in our state and a bottomless pit of Rendell donors to help them win this fall. The battle will be won or lost in the populous suburbs.

I hope the ticket the GOP is now putting together can get enough votes to overcome all of this. I also hope Carol Aichele is a candidate in the future!

The winning combo keeps coming back to this person. Maybe Aichele’s supporters and others will take a second look:

At least Steve Johnson is the one candidate for LG out there who is actually going after the insiders instead of sucking up to them like a trained puppy:

Steve Johnson is a good man, but his crew spend a lot of time using negatives and attacks to get a point across.

The question people have is what IS his point? Where does he stand? How will he lead??

“NoMoreInsiders” is a slogan filled with “Anti” rhetoric, not a theme for job growth. “Same Old song and Dance” is a great video, but it does not tell us what the heck the guy is gonna do to get Pa moving again.

Firing up the base is important, but how will he reach the rest of the voting public in the general….lots of anger and insider elbow throwing, which is fine…but once you knock ‘em out, what the heck is Steve gonna do??

People almost always vote FOR a candidates plans, not for what he’s solely against….
