Zelov had planned to run, but supports Gerlach
After much consideration, Lower Merion Township Commissioner Scott Zelov says he was ready to run for Congress in the 6th District. He had started fundraising, scheduled events and a formal announcement is planned.
But now that incumbent Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) is seeking reelection, Zelov, a Republican, is stepping aside.
“I had come to a decision that I was in, but now I’m fully in support of Jim Gerlach,” Zelov told pa2010.com Friday.
“I was planning to run a successful campaign, but this is good news for the people of the 6th Congressional District,” he said. “Jim Gerlach has been a very strong member of Congress and I will support him. The most important thing is that this seat remain a Republian seat and that we keep the pressure on the Democrats and their big-spending ways in Washington.”
Zelov is the first in a crowded field of Republicans to say he’s definitely not running in the wake of Gerlach’s switch from the governor’s race to the House race.
“I’ll be returning funds to my early contributors and thanking them for their support,” he added.
