Practically anybody could beat those two. Specter is a washed up self-admitted political opportunist and can’t even create a coherent sentence. Sestak is practically universally disliked. Can’t even find a campaign manager.

Specter, whatever his faults, is a venerable public figure in the state of Pennsylvania. He would pose a far more formidable challenge to Toomey than Represenatative Sestak, a self-serving demagogue who done little, if anything, to enhance the well-being of Pennsylvanians. What, exactly, qualifies Sestak to hold this position? His (very brief) history of service to the community?! His (minimal) contributions to progressive causes?! His brief residency in the state of PA?! Sestak is unworthy of being elevated to this office – indeed, far more unworthy than the public is aware.

If you check out the poll numbers, Specter has a BIGGER lead over Sestak among the women.
Bachman is no lady. She’s like Sarah Palin without the brains. I’m glad that Specter went after that racist homophobe. More people need to talk to her like that.

I think the general election numbers are a reflection of Dem/Rep national dynamic rather than the candidates. As I’ve said before, the election is going to hinge on how the economy is doing in the Summer/Fall and whether the voters want the Dems to continue or go back to the failed Republican policies.

Isn’t it fascinating that Sestak is as polling as strongly as Specter for the general election; but weaker than Specter for the Democratic primary? Does that tell you that PA Dem primary voters are more conservative than general election voters (which, of course, includes Rs and independents)? Or, perhaps, that Dem primary voters are more like sheep who follow the party shepherds (a/k/a “leaders”) than the more open minded general election voters, who think for themselves?

Maybe the “ladies” will help Specter. His demeaning, sexist comments to Congresswoman Bachman, telling her twice to “act like a lady” show the true Specter, the one whom Anita Hill met. He is so gone!! Should have happened years ago. I cannot believe that any progressive person would vote for him for anything.

I appreciate the sarcasm. The Rasmussen polls are always skewed a few points to the Republicans. I’d say the race is a toss-up within the margin of error.

The toughest challenge for Specter is the national mood over jobs and the economy. Specter was for the public option and other things that @ssholes like Lieberman screwed up. Once he gets past the Dem primary, Sestak won’t be spending his time (and money) tearing down Specter and the Democratic party.

It’s going to be a tough race. No question about it. But, I think that Specter is more up to the challenge than Sestak. It’s possible that neither could beat Toomey if the economy doesn’t show enough recovery.
Specter can capture moderates and independents, so he’s got the broadest base from which to work.

If the Dems wake up to what the GOP is trying to do, we can beat Toomey and the disinformation machine.

I don’t believe any of this! Rasmussen is a neocon, racist, homophobe pollster for the teabag movement! Everyone lives Arlen and everyone wants ObamaCare and higher taxes! With all my usual caveats about Raz being tilted towards the Rs on the general election numbers well out from election day, voters seem to want change and Arlen seems to epitomize the same, old thing. With Eddie Spendel firmly in negative territory and Barack Obama heading there, who is going to lift the old boat onto the farther shore?
