Specter to Bachmann: I’m sorry
“Act like a lady” has come full circle.
Four days after Senator Arlen Specter ignited charges of sexism on the blogosphere by saying those words to Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Specter apologized.
The Inquirer reports that Specter called Bachmann yesterday, and that his office said Bachmann accepted. For some, the remark hearkened back to Specter’s infamous and brutal questioning of Anita Hill during Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court confirmation hearings, an episode that angered many women voters. Specter’s latest flap was pilloried online and in the press, and his primary opponent Joe Sestak called it “unacceptable.”
At least one prominent female political figure in the area was ready to forgive Specter.
“I was angry with him over the Thomas-Hill hearings,” former State Senator Connie Williams told The Inquirer. “But I forgave him, because of all he has done for women on every other front. In supporting the Violence Against Women Act, choice, NIH funding, equal pay, and other concerns, Arlen Specter has been there for the women of Pennsylvania.”

What Specter said was nicer than anything I would have said to that vacuous loon.
Is she ever going to apologize to Obama for all the crap she says?

Indeed. Representative Bachmann is a neo-Fascist lunatic. Specter should have counseled her to act like a human being!

Res ipsa loquitur. ]The remark demonstrated the real Specter, a nasty 80-year old man who views women in a patronizing manner and who won’t hesitate to demean them when it suits his political interests, as he did with Anita Hill. Bachman is a loon. But, there are ways to address that in a manner that does not portray gender bias.

Should add that my reference to age is that Specter has proven that he has outdated attitudes toward women and is at an age where he should retire. Nobody would hire a business executive who is 80 years old, and there is no reason for us to continue him in the Senate at that age.

I’m glad they included the remark from Connie Williams. Specter has done a lot for women’s issues. (Also she served on Sestak’s transition team…interesting that she would be defending Specter).

Perhaps he was mad because she refused to change Grandpa Specter’s diaper? Can’t wait until Nov when Toomey retires Specter’s 117 year old behind.

Tom-
Bachmann didnt refuse to vote to continue promoting sexism… IN FACT she voted for it. What an embarrassment! See HR. 11, the Lilly Leadbetter Act. Specter voted for Lilly Leadbetter. S. 181 So much for this issue.
Michelle Bachmann, a loud interruptive ignoramus was way out of her league.

The man is 80 years old – he’s using a vernacular from a different era. I’m more concerned with his deeds than his words, and his voting record speaks for itself: Sen. Specter is far more of a feminist and a champion of women’s rights than Rep. Bachmann, who has spent her career fighting against women’s rights.

Bachmann is a creep and a socialist. Her family farm took in 251,973 in farm bill money. Socialism but like always it’s ok when the republicans are doing it

Jungle, do you think it is ok when the people that the Liberals advocate on behalf of take OUR MONEY? I know we live in a veryu divided country, but the laws apply to all, if her family was eligible, what is your bitch? Perhaps you think that all the money should be used for people that think like you.
