Sellers staying in 6th District race

Tea-party activist Patrick Sellers on Saturday became the first Republican candidate to say unequivocally that he’s staying in the race for the 6th Congressional District even though incumbent Jim Gerlach is now seeking reelection.

“I am in this race because I believe the American people are tired of the status quo, tired of bailing out Wall Street bankers, tired of ridiculous programs like cash for clunkers and definitely tired of deficit spending,” Sellers said in a statement. People are getting fed up with those saying they are defending people so they can keep more of their hard earned paychecks but then act to steal those very paychecks and those of generations to come through bills such as the bailout.

“I remain in the race because I cannot sit idly by while career politicians continue piling money on our $12 trillion debt for my children and children’s children to try to pay off,” he added.

Gelach’s decision to switch from a gubernatorial bid to a run for reelection has shaken up the crowded primary landscape. Howard Cohen has already dropped out, while geologist Walt Hufford’s campaign has said he’s staying in—for now. State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) and businessman Steven Welch have yet to definitively say what they’re doing.

Tea-party guy in the race. Excellent.

You can’t have a circus without clowns.

Considering how Corbett and Toomey aren’t facing big challenges, Republican turnout should be low.
Since Toomey’s fans are the extreme right-wingers, the ones that turn out could a be a boost for the tea-party lunacy.

Frankly, I’m surprised that politicians like Gerlach, who are responsible for the billionaire banker bailouts, would still expect support from conservatives. Shouldn’t they just go spend their kick-backs on a beach somewhere, and let guys like Pat Sellers clean up their mess?

    David, as I said elsewhere:

Unless you are prepared to tar the entire Ron Paul wing of the GOP with “lunacy”, you’re going to have to find another line of attack with Sellers.

On the other hand, if you are, well, that certainly helps us know where you’re coming from!
