Schroder sees ‘DC-style earmarks’ in table games bill
As legislation authorizing table games in Pennsylvania gained long-awaited passage Wednesday night, state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) had harsh words for appropriation provisions in the bill, expected to be signed by Gov. Ed Rendell Thursday.
Speaking of annual appropriations for a handful of local schools, hospitals and other entities, Schroder, a Republican candidate in the 6th Congressional District said that “we are seeing Washington, D.C.-style earmarks under the guise of local impact.”
“Just because a certain interest has a sugar mama or sugar daddy in the district, they will get funding in perpetuity,” Schroder said, according to The Inquirer.

Out of Sync

Gambling is popular in the Southeast yet Schroder leads the charge against it. Locals don’t want to keep driving to Atlantic City for table games and enjoyable leisure activities. Keep our money in PA! He’s out of sync with voters on this issue.

Good job Curt. We need you in the State Senate to keep an eye on these things. Gaming is the opiate of dysfunctional government. When it runs out of revenue sources, it turns to a regressive tax on those who can least afford it. Just because addiction is popular doesn’t mean we should foster it. We need honest budgeting in Harrisburg. The gold rush of gaming tax revenue does not solve the problem. Instead, as shown here, it exacerbates the problem.
