REP. BILL KORTZ WITHDRAWS FROM U.S. SENATE RACE
By KORTZ FOR SENATE
Thursday, January 14, 2010 – State Representative Bill Kortz, D – Dravosburg, announced today that
after careful consideration and consultation with his family and close advisors, he has decided to withdraw his name from consideration for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania for the 2010 democratic primary.
The Representative stated: “Unfortunately, I have not been able to secure the necessary funding to run a competitive race and get my message out to all Pennsylvanian’s. The sad truth is, to be successful in this arena; one must be able to access the funds necessary to drive the message home.”
Kortz stated: “I entered the contest last April because of the unacceptable economic meltdown our country has suffered. I have worked diligently over the last 8 months traveling many thousands of miles, pressing the message that this economic debacle is the No. 1 issue and that those responsible must be held accountable. Millions of hard working Americans have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Thousands of businesses have been devastated because of irresponsible actions and outright greed by others. I worked very hard to drive this message across Pennsylvania.”
Kortz further opined: “This severe downturn cannot be passed over as a minor negative blip in an overall economic cycle. No my friends, this was a self-generated money grab that has wreaked havoc across Pennsylvania and the entire United States. To protect us from a repeat of this unacceptable event I would ask all Pennsylvanians to require the following: 1.An accountability of those most responsible 2. Insist that our elected officials put in correct regulatory oversight so that this economic catastrophe never repeats itself and 3. That elected officials pursue with haste, job creating incentives.”
He further went on to say: “I want to sincerely thank all the good and decent citizens of Pennsylvania that I met as my campaign took me to every corner of our great state for their encouragement and support. I was truly blessed to meet all of you and cherish the friendships made. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the General Assembly, and will now concentrate all my efforts in doing the best job possible for the citizens of the 38th District, the Mon Valley region, and Pennsylvania.”
