Rage against the machine

“Rage Against the Machine” is an American rock band. It is also a perfect phrase for what happened in Massachusetts on Tuesday, as the Democratic machine was rocked by a state Senator who happens to drive a truck. And because of Republicans, independents and even some Democrats, this “people’s representative” is heading to Washington to initiate a calm and measured dialogue regarding health care. One thing is crystal clear after Brown’s history-making victory:  Voters don’t want a trillion-dollar health care bill—no ifs, ands or buts, and they showed the machine that they want no parts of it.

This earth-shattering victory could be a bellwether for 2010 in the Keystone State as well. All throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, many voters are concerned about this upheaval in our health care system. And many are asking themselves the same question: “Why are the Democrats racing to get this bill through when in all actuality, even if it passes it won’t become law until 2014, two years after the next presidential election?”

Here’s the kicker: The taxpayers would start paying taxes as early as this year to pay for it. Meanwhile, many Democratic incumbents who assumed they were in a “safe” seat are now scratching their heads and saying if Brown, a conservative Republican, can win in a midnight-blue state like Massachusetts, anything can happen. Ironically, it doesn’t matter how long they have been there or how much money is in their war chest. This is going to be the year of the upsets.

The politics of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have attempted to shove this legislation down our throats, but guess what? On Tuesday night, common sense engulfed the voters of Massachusetts by electing a conservative Republican who will try to stop the insanity in Washington.

Pennsylvania is next. Let’s get ready to do our own “Rage Against the Machine.”

I agree 100%! It is time to battle the machine and get our voices heard again in Washington. To do this we need to all get involved. It is not merely enough to register and vote. Get out and meet the candidates, ask questions and voice your opinion. It’s time to send the career politicians packing! Take a look at some new first time runners such as Clayton Grabb. He has already rocked the GOP boat and stood his ground. This is the type of person I want representing me in Congress; someone not afraid to stand up for what the people want and what is right.
