Lentz camp: Meehan ‘afraid to stand up to Republican machine’
With former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan appearing to dodge state Representative Bryan Lentz’s (D-Delaware) call to take a stance on a state lawmaker who is controversially holding two elected offices, Lentz’s campaign is taking the opportunity to paint Meehan as beholden to Delaware County GOP leaders.
“It is no surprise that Pat Meehan is afraid to stand up to the Republican political machine that created him,” Lentz campaign manager Vincent Rongione said late Thursday. “Instead he hides behind a campaign spokesperson, completely fails to take a stance on an important issue and leaves the taxpayers to foot the bill. Why is Pat Meehan so afraid to tell the voters where he stands on the issue?”
Earlier Thursday, Meehan’s campaign deflected Lentz’s challenge as “partisan political games.” A campaign spokesman did not respond to an e-mail seeking clarification on where Meehan stands on the issue of state Representative Mario Civera (D-Delaware), who backed off on a campaign pledge to resign his House seat when he won a Delaware County Council seat last year.
The back-and-forth has amounted to the first sustained attacks of the 7th District race between Lentz and Meehan, expected to be one of the most competitive House races in the country.

Yes, Pat – the voters would love a straight answer from you on this one.

Frankly, this is easy. And I know Pat will do the right thing. Go ahead Pat. Tell him. Tell Mario his first act as a new councilman shouldn’t be to stradle the taxpayers of the county with a whopping bill just to carry out a partisan political erand for the Machine. Tell him he represents all the people of Delaware County, not just the Republican Machine Bosses. Tell him he should honor his promise because you’re a man who believes a promise is a promise and should be kept.
Go ahead Pat, tell him . . . Pat? Pat?
Please get back to us when John McNichol and Andy Rielly tell you what to say. We’ll be waiting.

Um, Lentz is accusing a fellow legislator of not representing his constituents when Lentz missed 71 votes in the past couple months. Look up hypocrite in the dictionary and there’s a picture of Bryan Lentz.
Do you think its ethical for an elected official to not show up for work and still take a paycheck? Before you say yes, how would you feel if it was a Republican who wasn’t voting and going around accusing Democrats of not properly representing their constituents?

The number 71 sounds awfully specific. Who’s doing your research? If you are a part of the Meehan campaign, just reveal yourself now.
Just a word of warning… unless you know WHY Lentz was not present during the time you claim, you are walking into a mine field. Was he meeting with constituents on an important issue? Was he dealing with a health or family matter?
If you are interested in dictionaries, you can place the Delco GOP along corruption, deceit, fraud, neglect, abuse of power, etc.
Kettle, you’d have to be smoking pot to ignore Civera’s deliberate lies and evasions regarding Civera and his broken campaign promises.
Meehan’s a tool of the Delco GOP. He’s a trained lapdog looking for a lap, a treat and a “pat” on the head.
If you measure an ounce of integrity in him, take your thumb off the scale and weight it again.

Read much? 71 missed votes by Lentz was cited in the other article on this site. Let your fingers do the walking. Are you a part of the Lentz campaign? You seem awfully defensive and a tad bit bitter.

Potty-
71 was the number quoted by Pete Peterson. Pete doesn’t count as a reliable source.
I am not a part of the Lentz campaign, nor have I endorsed him for the primary over Gail Conner. I’m neutral on the primary, but I’ll happily defend either one of them against turkey’s like Peterson and Meehan.
Wasn’t Pete Peterson a spokesman for Curt Weldon’s failed campaign? Then, afterward, wasn’t he also on the failed Craig Williams campaign?
With, Meehan’s campaign, Peterson can get to be a three-time loser.
The guy is a bigger stooge than Meehan.

I support Bryan Lentz, but I honestly do not understand how you (Dave) can defend Bryan’s missed votes while supporting the claims by Specter that Sestak is skipping out on his responsibilities. You count the Specter campaign as a reliable source but not the Meehan or Sestak campaign (or district office). You personal vendetta against Sestak is appalling, but that’s not the point of this article. The point is, Meehan doesn’t want to lose support from the UD GOP so he is kissing some butts to make sure he has their money, time and support.
On another note… Dave, who give a crap if you endorse them? You are a nobody in the party. I’d guess even a site like PA2010, devoted only to PA politics, and heavily focused on SEPA would carry a story that mentioned your endorsement. Come on, get over yourself.

Also, I know that Bryan has gone through an unspeakable personal tragedy, and any votes that he missed as a result are completely understood. No parent should have to endure what he did and my prayers go out to him and his family.

Finally a fellow Democrat posted something about David. He is a bitter baby and the ultimate hypocrite. I’m not a fan of Sestak but I can honestly say he will get my vote mainly due to David’s posts annoying me.

HaverfordDemocrat-
I didn’t want to bring up the details of Lentz’s personal family tragedy, which is the reason for his missed votes.
Sestak, on the other hand, missed votes for campaigning. Which is completely different.
Also, the Specter campaign has actually produced a detailed list of the dates for Joe’s missed votes, and where Joe was campaigning. This has a little more credibility than Pete Peterson tossing out a number, without any context as to why.
Finally.. not only has the Sestak campaign admitted about the missed votes, but they’ve declared those votes to be unimportant ones. So, somehow that makes it okay in their way of thinking.
If you would read a little more carefully, the point of my “endorsement” statement was to counter Pot’s question: “Are you a part of the Lentz campaign?”
As I posted here a few weeks ago, I am providing some election services to the Conner campaign, so I have chosen not to declare publicly a preference. However, that doesn’t not prevent me from defending either candidate from GOP attacks.
(BTW, there are other prospective clients I am courting, whom I do intend to endorse/support publicly.)
OES-
Plenty of people have posted about me. However, HaverfordDemocrat’s assertion that I am “nobody” in the party is silly. Hundreds of committee people in Delco and Montco use my voter services for elections, petitions and other party activities. The Haverford committee happens to be one of my most active user groups.
If you want to vote on my “annoyance” rather than Sestak’s shortcomings or the issues, it’s your vote to waste for the wrong reasons. Do you also decide your votes based on whether you like the candidate’s tie?

If you consider Bryan Lentz’s tragedy so awful as to be “unspeakable”, I will have a question for you and Mr. Diano when the congressional races start bringing up foreign policy/international affairs. We may have to mention the unspeakable in the federal races.

Though declining to detail it, I haven’t referred to Bryan’s family tragedy as “unspeakable”.
However, the Bush administration tried to keep the details of US torture unspoken.
Meehan can’t even talk about the obvious public abuses by Civera. How can anyone expect Meehan to speak up about more difficult issues?
To Pete Peterson and company-
I kicked your anonymous @sses during the Weldon campaign blog wars. If the Meehan campaign continues this despicable tactic of exploiting the death of a child for cheap political points, you will consider our previous exchanges to be love letters by comparison.
I highly recommend that the Meehan campaign should use it’s funds to hire managers and spokesmen who can at least pretend to have a soul.

David,
Your claim that the Meehan campaign is exploiting the death of a child is shameful. Anybody who is even remotely aware local politics knows of the Lentz family situation. Brian Lentz has not used it, Meehan has not used it, only you have. Pretty sophomoric trick, accuse somebody of engaging in the dirty games you’re playing and that way you can convince yourself you’re above it. You’re a disgrace.
David Diano

Thomas J-
I see (on the other thread) that the Meehan campaign has already issued a statement of denial about exploiting the tragedy. Well, they clearly weren’t issuing it because of me, so plenty of other people must have picked up on it and complained.
Considering Peterson and his gang of GOP hacks and misfits, this behavior seems like deja vu. During the Weldon campaign, they criticized Sestak for not taking his daughter to a local hospital like CHOP. It blew up in their faces too.
The Meehan campaign “explanation” detailing the missed votes, only totals 31 of the 71 they are claiming Lentz missed.
It’s possible some idiot on the campaign tallied up missed votes, without regard to why Lentz was absent, to release the highest number possible. The campaign was too stupid to realize the reason, and stepped in it big time. If that’s the case, the smart thing would be to apologize and fire the researcher and Mr. Peterson.
Thomas, Meehan’s the one trying to avoid his connection to his pal Civera by diverting attention to Lentz irresponsibly.
Typical dirty Delco GOP politics.
