Five SWPA Legislators Endorse Senator Arlen Specter

By ARLEN SPECTER FOR SENATE

Wilkins Township – Five southwest Pennsylvania legislators endorsed Senator Arlen Specter for re-election today.

Former Democratic Senate candidate State Rep. Bill Kortz led the endorsements, along with State Senator Jay Costa and State Representatives Paul Costa, Joe Preston and Tim Solobay.

“I am proud to endorse Senator Specter for re-election,” said Kortz.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Senator Specter has the experience, he has the capability of getting things done, he has demonstrated performance in the past. He has the ear of the President of the United States, the Vice President and the Administration at large,” said Kortz. “Specter is willing to work and push forward that Democratic agenda. And that willingness will be reciprocated, because the Administration will be willing to put forth his agenda, and we are going to be part of that agenda. He has influence, he has stature, and that cannot be minimized.”

“I enthusiastically endorse Arlen Specter’s bid for re-election,” said State Senator Jay Costa. “His seniority and his unmatched ability to secure funding for our region is vitally important in these tough economic times. Arlen Specter has proven he delivers for western Pennsylvania and we cannot risk losing his clout.”

Rep. Paul Costa agreed with his brother. “The decision to endorse the Senator was very easy for me. He’s worked with us over the years and we cannot strees enough the importance of keeping him in Washingon D.C. representing us, because of his seniority and the things he can do for our state, especially western Pennsylvania.”

This caps a strong run of endorsements for Specter. Earlier this week more than half a dozen Democratic leaders from the Lehigh Valley endorsed Specter — including County Executives from Lehigh and Northampton counties and five area Democratic Party chairs. Later that same day Philadelphia’s Democratic Ward Leaders unanimously backed Specter. Monday more than a half dozen southwestern Pennsylvania unions representing 23,000+ working men and women will endorse Specter.
