Callahan says he has $625K on hand; outraises Dent (Updated)
Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan said Thursday that his congressional campaign has more than $725,000 in the last five months, ending 2009 with more than $625,000 in the bank. The announcement was the latest indication that Callahan, a White House recruit for the Democrats, will be able to mount a well-funded challenge against Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15).
Callahan’s campaign raised about $345,000 in the third quarter—a period in which he outraised Dent—signaling that his campaign brought in about $380,000 in the three final months of the year. His campaign said 28 percent of its individual donors are registered Republicans. The Express-Times reported that Dent said he raised $350,000 during the quarter, marking the second consecutive period in which the challenger bested the incumbent in fundraising.
“I am proud of all the bipartisan support we’ve received and it is an honor to have so many members of our community and both parties invested in our campaign,” Callahan in a statement. “We’ve brought billions in economic development to create good jobs and grow our economy here in Bethlehem, and I’m committed to doing the same for all of the Lehigh Valley in Congress.”

You have Dent’s Party affiliation wrong. He’s a Republican (R-15), not a (D-15).

This rules. Callahan is a great mayor, and this is a top pick -up opportunity for Dems. If you can forgive the self-promotion, we’re going to be covering this race extensively at http://www.lehighvalleyindependent.com.

I bet at least 50% of Dent’s and Callaan’s donations came from political buddies and lobbyist and corporation PACs. What the 15th district needs is a congressman who isn’t part of the good ol’ boy system and will tell voters where he spent every last penny.

Jake …
…will not accept donations from lobbyist or corporation PAC groups.
…will use 100% of donations for his campaign(i.e.: he won’t be transferring money to his favorite political party, or using the money to buy an expensive haircut, pay a political consultant, or hire an investigator to dig up dirt on opponents).
…doesn’t have an expensive office to maintain or staff salaries to pay, so every cent is being used to spread the message of liberty.
…has personally donated over $2000 to his campaign – his political opponents haven’t put a single dime into theirs.
…will, once elected, only accept the median household income and donate the remainder of his pay to local hospitals. He also will not accept the lucrative congressional pension program.
