A Trivedi aide decides to run for state House
Why work on someone else’s campaign when you can just run for office yourself?
Gregg Kravitz, who had been serving as Democrat Manan Trivedi’s day-to-day campaign coordinator in the 6th Congressional District, opted for the latter. In an e-mail to friends and supporters Monday, Kravitz announced that he was running against state Representative Babette Josephs (D-Philadelphia) for her seat in downtown Philadelphia. He is taking on a steep uphill battle against one of the most entrenched incumbents in the legislature.
“I’m confident this is the time to do it,” Kravitz wrote in the e-mail. “The current representative has held the seat since 1984 (when I was 4 years old!). She won her re-election campaign in 2006 by a slim margin of only 237 votes—so it’s clear that the people in this district are ready for a change. We need fresh energy and a pragmatic approach when crafting meaningful public policy. This is the only way to get results at a time when there are deficits on so many fronts—jobs, healthcare, education, energy, civil rights—the list goes on and on.”
For the Trivedi campaign, it was not unexpected news. It had never planned for Kravitz to be a permanent campaign manager, and his exit comes as the Reading doctor has settled on someone to run his bid for Congressman Jim Gerlach’s (R-6) seat. Ed Niles, who has managed voter data and worked on campaigns for Barack Obama and John Edwards, is starting work as the campaign manager this week.

Why waste the time? It’s hard to crack into Philadelphia politics and this isn’t a time for democratic infighting.

It’s also good that Trivedi will FINALLY have a campaign manager.

Dan-
You might want to add a category at the top for the State Legislature (House and Senate).

Just another candidate in a long list who challenged Joseph’s and lost. Babette is the most progressive member of the legislature, a senior member, a committee chair and very popular in her district.
I will always proudly support Babette.
