Cohen and Welch welcome Sellers in 6th District (Updated)

Two Republican candidates in the 6th District greeted their latest of many primary opponents Tuesday, offering words of welcome to Patrick Sellers.

“I welcome Pat into this race which is critical to the future of our region,” businessman Steven Welch said in a statement. “Pat and I share a common concern that our nation is on a risky fiscal path, creating mountains of debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren. 6th District voters are the true beneficiaries when they have numerous candidates to look at, with a robust debate over which policies can help move us forward.

“I look forward to a spirited and substantive campaign with Pat and the other Republican candidates in the primary,” Welch added.

In his own statement, former Thonrburgh administration Revenue Secretary Howard Cohen praised Sellers’ focus on economic issues.

“In his announcement he focused on important economic issues, and I look forward to a civil, in depth exploration of these critical issues with him and the others seeking the GOP nomination,” Cohen said. “There is nothing more important than debating ways to get our neighbors back to work.

Our discussions on these issues is vital to encourage the growth of small and family businesses where so many new jobs will be created,” Cohen added. “Pat’s reputation warrants that attention be given to his thoughts, and I intend to do that.”

I wouldn’t dismiss any Tea Party candidate in a closed primary.

Tea Party types who pay attention already support Schroder, for good reason. They will limit the exodus of those folks into the Sellers camp to a mere trickle. Said trickle, btw, will be more than overwhelmed by the parts of the tea party crowd who would have liked Welch because he “knows something” about the private sector who now have a fellow-traveler to vote for.

It may have made a difference if this fellow hadn’t already run for Congress. A real unknown tea party type would make me think like Michael. This fellow just seems to be piggy-backing.

This just muddies the water even more, which in the end is good news for Curt.
