Trivedi says he opposes Stupak amendment; campaign keeps up the attack

Doug Pike asked. Manan Trivedi answered—and then attacked some more.

In the latest volley of a day-long fight between Doug Pike and Manan Trivedi over abortion, Trivedi’s campaign insisted Tuesday night that the Reading doctor has always opposed the Stupak amendment to federal health care reform legislation, which would expand restrictions to abortion access.

“He has never supported it,” Trivedi spokesman Daren Berringer said in a statement.

Not content to leave it there, the Trivedi campaign went on to revive a two-month old incident in which Pike’s campaign manager was called out by liberal blog Daily Kos for making “disparaging remarks” about Trivedi under the guise of anonymity.

“We were glad to respond to Mr. Pike’s request about Manan’s position on the Stupak Amendment,” Berringer said. “And now it is Pike’s turn. When are you going to apologize to the entire grassroots and netroots communities for allowing your campaign to conduct itself in such a less than respectful manner? It has now been 61 days since the incident and you have failed to utter a single word. As an Iraq War veteran and a physician, Manan Trivedi has always taken ‘responsibility’ seriously. Mr. Pike, when are you going to apologize and finally take responsibility for your campaign?”

Barring a late-night response from the Pike campaign, the latest words appeared to cap a contentious day between the two Democratic campaigns in the 6th Congressional District. It was a day that started with a pa2010.com op-ed by Pike, and soon spiraled into a flurry of attacks and counter-attacks.

This is getting to be more fun that Specter-Sestak. :-)

Seriously, to both campaigns: If you are going to state your opponent’s positions, make sure you have the position or have a clearly contradiction or flip-flop.

Don’t try to “fill-in-the-blanks” on an unstated position. You’ll come off looking like an @sshole
(and I will help fuel that perception).

Doug Pike has no credibility, as evidenced by this last irresponsible misrepresentation of his opponent’s position. And since he put it out as an op-ed, he cannot claim it was a mistake!!
This just seals the deal for me as to who i would support-Pike just shows himself to be just another politician, willing to say and do anything to get elected-he must have learned this at his father’s knee.
