Suburban Snapshot’s day one in New York
NEW YORK—Suburban Snapshot was partying it up here last weekend. State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi’s event Friday was crowded as always, as Pileggi has people who really like his brand of Harrisburg leadership. Next we went on to the Michael Clark reception. This was my first time, and I can see why this is the “best kept secret”—and I’ll keep it this way.
Next on the agenda was BlankRome. This is “The Party” for Friday night. In my four years of being at the Pa. Society weekend, BlankRome’s ticket has been the premiere invitation. This reception had more than it’s share of A-listers both Republican and Democrat. The evening consisted of the following: you broke bread, you laughed, you hugged, you commiserated, you listened, you planned, you exchanged business cards. Also there was a Hollywood celebrity, Melissa Fitzgerald, co-star of “The West Wing,” the Emmy-award winning TV show that lasted for seven years. I had a chance to chat with Melissa, whose mother is Carol Fitzgerald, the Society’s director. Melissa told me that she is working on a documentary called “Voices of Uganda.”
For a fun time, the annual IBEW Local 98 party is a must. John Dougherty personally greeted everyone as you walked into the ballroom at the Waldorf. Johnny Doc has gifts for people going in. This year it was very interesting as they had a book, “Badlands” by Richard Montanari, who was there to personally autograph them. His books are about Philadelphia homicides. Asher’s Chocolates were given out too. Talk about a bipartisan event.
Inside, the music was playing, and lots of Union League members were there, but were heading back on Saturday for the annual Army-Navy game. There were Republicans dancing with Democrats and Democrats dancing with Republicans. No one asked what your party was. Everyone was there to just party and be proud to be from Pennsylvania.
The Governor Mifflin event was a great time, but you had to have wristbands to get in. No schmoozing on this one. They had entertainment and some great desserts—bananas foster, and another Kahlua-type dessert. To round out Friday night, Suburban Snapshot attended her first Democratic party—”Joe Hoeffel After Dark.” Hoeffel was very nice, and I met some personable folk. Great food, too. Has anyone ever had coconut fried shrimp? Absolutely delicious.
I will be doing a radio wrap-up of the weekend Monday at 12:10pm on www.wnpv1440.com on “Comment Please.”
