Republican voters in the 6th Congressional District will soon be getting their first formal introduction to Steven Welch, one of the several candidates seeking their votes in next year’s primary.

Welch’s campaign this week sent out its first mailer, a three-page letter with picturesque photos of his wife and two children that frames his candidacy as one spurred by the Democratic agenda in Washington.

“I must admit I never dreamed I’d be writing this letter,” Welch writes. “I never thought I would be writing to let you know that I am running to be our next Congressman.

I can tell you quite honestly that, before the birth of our children, the last thing on my mind was politics,” Welch continues. “The more I started to carefully watch what was going on in Washington, and the more I learned about the impact of the Democrats’ agenda that grows government and increases our debt, the more concerned I became for all children—yours and mine. When they passed the wasteful, misguided ‘stimulus’ bill, I decided to run for Congress.”

Welch, a wealthy bio-tech entrepreneur, is expected to spend heavily as he looks to come out on top in a crowded primary and hold a seat Democrats are determined to capture. The mailing appears to be one the first significant outlays of his campaign.
