Stensland blasts Pa. pols for being in NYC
NEW YORK—Amid rumors that she would be appearing her to discuss her possible congressional candidacy, former Fox29 anchor Dawn Stensland signaled Friday night that she’d be staying put, and went on to blast the state’s political leaders for partying in New York during a recession.
“As a journalist I’d like to ask our elected officials and party elite why they are holding a four day lavish convention of “The Pennsylvania Society” in New York City?!?!?!” Stensland wrote on her Facebook page. “I know it is a tradition, but in this recession where every dollar counts, isn’t it time to start a new tradition of having the Convention in PENNSYLVANIA?? I am certain that the hotels, restaurants and all their employees here would have appreciated the business. And don’t you think it is much more difficult to convince big conventions to come to our state when you don’t even hold your own convention here? Sometimes the Good Old Boys who make up the Pennsylvania Political machines sure leave me puzzled.”
That she took to Facebook as she deliberates on her decision in private signaled her willingness to take to new media to control her own message. And in a further sign that she’s serious about running, she coyly invited voters to a chance to see her.
“BTW, tomorrow I will be at the Springfield Mall for some Christmas shopping with my children,” she wrote. “Maybe I will see you all there.”

I agree with her, even if she committed the cardinal sin of online posting: TOO MANY CAPS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!????!

I think psrt of the reason for NYC is to hide the special interests from the PA voters and local reporters (besides Dan).
As for Dawn, “as a journalist”, has she EVER complained about this BEFORE??

I can’t imagine I would ever support her policy, but I’ll say she brings up a very good point. What is the idea of going pot NYC? That seems so shady, and in a day and age where public opinion of politicians is so low, these high class functions in NYC make them look really bad. Imagine if the average citizen knew about these events? Dan, any comment on why the PA Society event is held in NYC?

The name drop of the Springfield Mall is comical. “Oh I’m so Delco! I shop at the Springfield Mall!” I’m from Havertown and I shop at the King of Prussia Mall just like Dawn Stensland. Well, come to think of it, she probably lives closer to Willow Grove.

Yeah, she’ll be shopping with her kids and her husband Larry Medte will be where? Oh, that’s right, he’s under house arrest!

I would never vote for her, but I agree 100%.
This weekend is a slap in the face to Pennsylvania.

I hear Dawn is going to Charlie’s for a burger after her shopping is complete. So what if it’s an hour away from Chestnut Hill…She was married in Delco, dammit!

The Springfield Mall reference is comical – but KOP is also in the district – so maybe she really is going there.
If she is going to run an outsider campaign taking shots at the bad behavior of pols, she could do well in this angry populist climate – at least in a primary.
Tea Party Endorsement?
Anyway, I like the post – no – I LOVE the post!!!!!

To go to another city, any city, in another state, any state, makes Pennsylvania look bad. Couldn’t Scranton, Altoona, Wilkes Barre, Johnstown, or Erie, let alone, Philadelphia or Pittsburg use the economic stimulus that this would have created? What about the loss of tax reveues to the Commonwealth itself?
End this stupidity, and have the Pennsylvania Society events actually take place in Pennsylvania.

David Diano – Broadcasters don’t get to decide what they “complain about” during a broadcast. Get a clue.

For the record, Stensland ended up going to the King of Prussia Mall (according to her twitter page). I guess Delaware County and the Springfield Mall were too long a drive for her from Chestnut Hill.

An interesting take from the University City Trumpet:
“LARRY MENDTE’S REVENGE? : At this weekend’s Pennsylvania Society Dinner the buzz was about reports that former TV news anchor Dawn Stensland, whose contract was not renewed by Fox 29, was considering running for the Republican nomination in the 7th District, which is comprised of most of Delaware County. The question bantered about was why? She’s not a Republican. She does not live in the District, let alone Delaware County. She has never taken a public stand on any issue on the federal, state or local level. She has never devoted any of her career to public service. Popular former Federal Prosecutor and Delaware County District Attorney Pat Meehan has the support of most of the Republican political figures in the area. She could run in her own district in Philadelphia. She could run for Congress in other districts in the area which do not have a candidate as strong as Pat Meehan. She could not care too much about Delaware County if she chose to live in Philadelphia. The inescapable conclusion of many is that she is either mad at Meehan for her husband’s prosecution or she is being pushed into it by that husband, Larry Mendte, bent on revenge for his career in broadcasting being ruined. Mendte seemed obsessed with his former co-anchor, Alicia Lane. He hacked into her email account literally hundreds of times, including emails from her agent and lawyers, breaching the attorney-client privilege. He shared some of what he learned with the press and seemed to be trying to ruin her career. He pled guilty and was sentenced for his crimes, also admitting an improper relationship with Alicia Lane. Is Mendte now obsessed with getting revenge? Other questions arose over why Stensland’s contract with Fox 29 was not renewed. This could be spicy if she actually jumps in the race.”
