Political theater in the 6th

While I sit comfortably—300 or so miles away—in what has for years been the reliable 12th Congressional District seat of John Murtha, I must admit that I am kind of enjoying watching the goings on over in the 6th District.

While I’ll admit that the attacks and counter attacks we’ve witnessed over the last few days between the Pike and Trivedi campaigns don’t do much to shine the light on the issues concerning voters or even on the legitimate positions of the candidates themselves, as political theater, the contentious bickering is rather fun to watch.

And now, GOP voters in the 6th have their very own Tea Partier added to an already crowded field of contenders thanks to one Patrick Henry Sellers (wasn’t his name just made for this?!) throwing his hat into the ring, complete with fiery, anti-government, “We’re mad as hell and we’re not gonna take it anymore!” red meat to throw to the masses.

It’s gonna be fun watching this for the next 11 months—from afar. While I can enjoy the juicy entertainment quotient that the political equivalent of an MMA match can bring, I can also sympathize with the voters who have to both endure the slugfest and try and wade through the verbal body slams to select the best candidate to represent their interests.

Voters of the 6th, good luck, our prayers are with you!
