Holiday wishes from the pols
It was that traditional time for candidates to send their holiday wishes last week. Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) wins the somewhat dubious distinction for seemingly being the only one who used his holiday wishes to take a stab at his political opponent, as noted here. A Sestak spokesman said the e-mail was more of a campaign update than a holiday message and wished Specter a Happy Hanukah.
Here’s a brief sampling of some other holiday e-mails from the 2010 hopefuls.
Democrat Manan Trivedi, candidate in PA-6:
“Growing up in the Reading area was great during the holidays. Memories from this time of year certainly helped to shape me and probably are a large part of the reason why service to my community has been such an important part of my life as an adult. It of course started with my own family. I remember each year when my father would come home from work at the Red Cheek apple juice factory with a coupon they would give him for a free turkey. My mom and dad always believed in sharing with others so as our tradition would have it, we would head down to the old IGA supermarket on Fleetwood-Blandon Road, pick up the turkey and then visit a family in the Reading area who needed it more than we did and offer it as a gift to them for their Christmas dinner. We may not have had a lot when I was a kid, but my parents believed in sharing what we could. It was a powerful lesson that I learned.”
Republican Pat Meehan, candidate in PA-7:
“As we share this special season with those close to us, let us also take a moment to remember and appreciate our men and women in the armed forces who are unable to be with their families as they serve this great country overseas. For the next few days, I will be taking a short hiatus from the campaign to spend more time with the people who matter most to me – my wife, three sons, and our extended families. These are the people who remind me why the ideals and the brighter future that I am fighting for are so important.”
Republican Tom Corbett, candidate for governor:
“The holidays are also a time to reflect upon the past year. This year, I am especially thankful for your support and the opportunity to once again serve the Commonwealth that I love. Together, I know we are going to bring jobs and prosperity back to our great state, and make every holiday season hereafter better than the one before. I love meeting supporters on the campaign trail and hearing your ideas about how to turn on the power of Pennsylvania once again.”

Dan-
If the message was a “campaign update”, then I guess, Sestak has the distinction of being the only candidate that didn’t send holiday wishes. He can’t have it both ways.
